So, I’ve read a few threads about adding a second usb socket as it’s in a stupid place as it is on the passenger side, especially if you have app connect.

So is there any reason you can’t take the existing socket and leave that behind the dash with a usb cable plugged in running behind the head unit then pop out of one of the blanking plates on the right.

All you need is a blanking plate to cover hole for the existing usb/aux in location and one to drill for the exit - can anyone supply the blanking plates?

Anyone done this?

If so where did you exit, and where do you mount phone? In car we have on right of screen but we don’t have sat nav on head unit - not sure if it’s best to have phone next to head unit.

No reason you can’t do this but VW don’t do a blank cover for it
Guess the best place to exit depends what you want to run and where

Thanks @Pauly do you know if the usb module can be pulled out of the back of the panel? Otherwise I’ll have to buy another unit and leave this in as a false if they don’t do a blank.

If you remove the complete outlet (plastic and metal parts) then you can separate the parts

Does anybody know how easy it is to remove the USB port in the centre of the comfort dash - I think this is damaged and hence why my phone keeps disconnecting

Photo to show the part I mean.

Thanks

My van is fitted with a factory Comfort Dash.
There is only one USB socket which is in the glovebox. I would prefer it was where there is a convenient blanking plate in the centre of the dash immediately below the radio.
Has anyone on here moved the USB from glovebox to centre and can advise on how easy or otherwise it is to do please?

I ran a good quality lightning cable out through the back of the glove box, behind the radio and then dropped down into that blank socket area.

From memory, take out the glove box, remove the fascia around the radio and take off the gearbox selector cover, didn’t take long.

But there is a proper way of adding a usb splitter, somebody more cleverer than me will chime in soon I’m sure.

Hi All
At last i've fetched my T6. And everything is great.
My one annoyance is that when i plug my phone in for the app-connect etc. The USB is on the far left of the headunit. So i either have a long usb lead trailing over to the right side. Or my phone sits miles away from me.
Im sure theres a better place for the usb/aux plug?
Has anyone moved these or added another one elsewhere that still works with the head unit/ App connect?
Thank you

It’s a pain, when not in use I keep the usb end plugged in and then wrap the cable around the gear stick, when in use I put the phone on top of the dash.
i did try a phone holder clipped to the air vent but a) it blocked the vent and b) the cable hung down and got in the way.

Firstly. I like those USB. Awsome oem look.
Secondly. Can't I modify the usb/aux module to fit in the blanks on the right? (Where your 3d printed ones are?)
How do I take those blanks out and the original USB ones out? I'll have a look then.
Thank you

The blanks just pull out with a trim tool. Not sure about the original USB. I have the Comfort dash so have left it in there as I sometimes play music through a stick.

I have the Apple connect. My only gripe is the Aux connection is miles away in relative terms, so I'd like to move that at some point. But what do others use as an Iphone holder on their T6's? I just shove it in that central tray at top for now, but its not convenient enough for me.

I bought one of those Kev, theyre great. I use the clamp adapter on the drivers side air vent. I also had all the trim off to do leisure battery and tucked the usb cable from the glove tray to just below. Now I have a neat and tidy cable. :)

I recommend those VanMass. Solid and sturdy. Hopefully wifey doesnt break this one like she did the other two in our saab.

"Just lift the lever love and the suction will allow it to be released."
Her - "No I will mangle it off like its a floppy gear stick."
