We are looking to upgrade our 67 plate T6 radio with an Appleplay with satnav unit. Would be interested to hear recommendations and also what size headset we would need?

Thanks in advance

Which “radio “ do you have.
see the attached. Depending on what you have, there may be options, otherwise you could change it out for a Kenwood for example.

It’s just a basic dab radio with Bluetooth to connect phone which was factory fitted. Our T6 is a 67 plate Kombi 150.

Do you have a budget?

Around £300 buys an RCD330 or similar. That will connect to your phone to control all the apps like Google Maps, Waze, Spotify etc. It doesn't have DAB and the sound is no better than standard.

£1000 gets you high quality Kenwood, Pioneer or Alpine units. You really do get what you pay for.

Then there's everything in between. It's nice to have a unit that is the specific shape for the hole in the dashboard, but then any Double DIN unit will fit with the right surround and fitting kit.

Reading through the spec of that, it says it's DAB, but the tuner spec only makes reference to AM and FM.
I’ll double check on that with @Dav-Tec but I’m sure Chris will have it sorted anyway. I see what you’re saying with the ‘Tuner Presets’, but I can’t imagine it not being DAB…. it says DAB+ all over it. That’s one of the reasons I’m going to a specialist in @Dav-Tec …. in his comprehensive estimate/job sheet there is mention of DAB, FM/AFM/AM and OEM USB retention.

100% those units have DAB. Personally I wouldn't bother wasting money on a 4 figure unit with built in Sat Nav that you probably won't use and the interface will be no where near as good as Waze, Apple or Google maps.

I have a discover media unit with sat nav etc in an I never use it I just plug the phone in and use android auto for the integration and use Google to navigate everywhere.

Again budget is a massive factor.

Just discover any of these units will know stop our parking f sensors working unless we spend an extra £200 !!! Is this right or is there some units that won’t?

Get back to your bed - you’re supposed to be on holidays!

Your sensors will still work and berp but you'll loose the optical side of things unless you by the full functionality adapter which retains this.

Kenwood do a direct fit unit but it'll cost closer to if not more than £1k than a different unit. The only other unit that will keep optical park and is a direct fit is the RCD330 but the DSP on it will be no where near the standard of something from 1 of the 4 big brands and there's no DAB and you'll only save say £200 but in my opinion the sacrifice out weighs the cost.

I never stop mate! Drives the Mrs nuts but I want to go full time and I want a better smarter unit that I'm in on my own so got to push. Just started playing with transporter bits for the 3D printer

Nothing wrong with being motivated to push ahead - make 2022 your year!

Unfortunately I haven't got a Transporter yet. I'm still in a Caddy. Got a T6 on the cards as soon as I can afford one. It's another thing that will help progress us. Best way to learn is to have one to experiment with lol.

The sensors still working and beeping will do for me…. that’s what mirrors are for!?
I’m sure the positives of this new head unit will far outweigh the negative of loosing the visual/virtual parking aid.
