Applying Sound Deadening And Insulation In This Great British Weather

Thanks for all the info and advice guys, I'll be tackling this over the weekend and will be sure to put up some pics once I'm done, heat gun..... and speedos at the ready....

Make sure you've got some ipa (not ale)or degreaser to give the panels a wipe down first:thumbsup:

Weird as for me I prefer using sound proofing sheets on a cold day as they can be far too plyable and act like jelly in your hands .. the only area you need them to warm is the wheel arches IMO and even there it’s easier to use cut outs and sensible shapes of material rather than warming a sheet up and hoping to stretch it around .. that’s my findng anyhow ..

Yeah I kinda found the same last weekend, the heat gun was good around the wheel arch as you say @osman but actually otherwise fitting it all was OK although it wasn't actually that cold last weekend! Managed to get both side walls completed, no pics as yes as it was dark by the time I'd finished. Will post some this weekend

No need for a heat gun if you stick a oil fired radiator inside the van and work in the warm. Just make sure you leave the front windows open a little for ventilation to stop condensation forming.

Just leave spaces round the working bits. That’s what I’ve done before.

Dodo 16mm thermo insulation everywhere there is sound deadening @OllieGBR after that it's a question of windows and carpeting but which one first?

I've just put the same 16mm in my van, are you going to add the fleece? (Not decided).

Window cut out, then carpet, then add windows. Apparently you can fold the carpet over the lip to give you a perfect finish rather than trying to carpet to a wiggly window seal @Cb83

Ah nice, any pics of the insulation @OllieGBR ? Be good to see how you did it, and how you got in above the wheel arches and the other tricky panels, any advice?

Hmm yes I've heard this is the best way to add windows and carpet, a bit daunting leaving holes in the van while you struggle with carpet! (no garage to protect from the weather if it turns)

Sorry @OllieGBR yes I think i will add the fleece too, once carpeting is done and I have the panels ready to go on, I figure that way the panels will hold the fleece in place.

Thanks for the pics, did you double up in places? Are you also planning on carpeting in one go? Or carpeting the panels seperatly? I'd prefer on one go but I havnt worked the electrics out yet.

No doubling up.
I’ve not made the decision on how to carpet yet, other than to do this after I’ve cut lots of holes in the panels.
I think electrics are next on the list.

Nice information in the photos, always good to see how other people are getting on.
Here is my work today.
1st layer is Silent Coat, 2nd is Armaflex 13mm insulation, 3rd layer is Daill recycled bottle fleece insulation from B&Q.
It was really cold here today up here in the Highlands but with an electic fan heater on in the van it all stuck fine. Although I worked with the tailgate open to avoid condensation.
The bare bits are finished now:thumbsup:

One thing to check, seal the ends of the bolts that protrude through from the sliding door rail, there were a few allowing water in on mine that I sealed up with PU adhesive, I was getting water in the bottom of the cavity behind the wheel.
