Autoterm Heater Output

I've had a 2KW autoterm heater fitted in the van ( professionally fitted by autoterm themselves in Wrexham) Can I ask the collective of persons who've got this fit heater fitted, What's is your output temperature like?
Mine is very warm, shall we say, but nothing like the scolding hot temperature of my old chinese diesel heater, which when that was running you could'nt hold your hand infront of the output for more than a few seconds

Am I missing a setting somewhere?, I've got it ramped all the way to the max in powermode, but I'm still not convinced its as hot as it should be.

Just thought I'd ask here before having to contact Autoterm and a drive back over to Wrexham

Where are your inlet and outlet vents?

Where is the heater mounted?

I have a 2kw D2, step inlet. Bpilkar outlet, under van mounted...

Takes about 20mins to up to temp . ..

Outlet Temp is very warm too hot to the feel at the vent.

Also get a thermometer,

Measure the inlet temp, and the outlet Temp.

I'll see if I can do the same tomorrow morning.

My 2Kw D2 was externally fitted and air inlet is in drivers foot step, only had it over winter but its never got as hot as the Chinese diesel heaters I have used before. It does get warmer if I direct heat back towards the inlet. I prefer the heat output as it never feels like I'm being cooked.

Mine is fitted under the driver's seat (internally) so intake is at the front and out to the rear of the seat. I'll try and get hold of a thermometer and get some temperature measurements.

My factory eberspacher D3 plus is 'toasty' warm on full heat, but not hot enough that it can't put my hand directly in front of the outlet.

If it's hot enough to cause pain then that's not a good thing, in my opinion!! You don't need it to be burning hot to heat up the van, a 3kw heater shouldn't take that long (30-40 minutes) to heat up a near freezing van to 18 degrees or so.

Mine is Under Van - Outlet behind drivers seat and inlet in driver step

On a Cold Day - 2'C to -5'C it takes 75 minutes to defrost windscreen

The air temp is warm / hot - maybe 30 to 40 degrees.

Van gets to around 25'C inside.

I actually duct it up and then split it at the outlet to front and back.

Output temperature right at the heater on most Webastos range between 100 and 110 degrees usually. There was an Air Top 2000 model that only output 90-95 degrees but Webasto put out a software update to fix that particular model.
Rough and ready test - I cannot hold my hand at the heater outlet for more than 5 seconds, the output is good.
If you are getting 30 to 40 only there is something very wrong.

Van had been running for an hour and was still on heat up mode (opened doors to let in the dogs)

Outlet temperature at top of duct was 55'C - so hotter than I Thought..

Inserting the wire into the duct to get it to as near as possible to the outlet at back seat (1M wire) and I got 67'C

So would guess that it in nearer 80'C at the heater.

Those pipe bends and tube length will slow the airflow down, so id assume
You would lose some efficientcy.... But a 50c outlet Temp seems ok to me ....

I'll see if I can get some temp readings this morning....

I've done some tests, so far 30mins after startup from -4c.

Heads Up on fitting these !! If you want to keep the full range of height and for/aft adjustment on the OEM seat, you will have to trim a fair chunk of the bottom edges on the lower side plastic trims (both sides of each chair) and a section deeper where the adjuster handle sits. You will be...

inlet temp now +16c,



outlet temp high 60/70s - here showing +78C,




rear internal temp raised to +15c now,



thats not bad, as with this current layout the bed makes a air pocket, so under the bed area is very warm, and it takes a while for the heat to travel to the rest of the van.

I fitted the duct after trying without and the dog cages in the back was limiting the hot air getting to the front screen and it was still misting up with the dogs in the van and the dehumidifier running

Adding the ducting has brought the heat up to the glass level - so now its much better - most mornings its clear of humidity when I am ready to leave from walking the dogs.. but even if its not less than 1 minute with the fan blower and I am clear at the front to drive.

The supplied ducting was around 60mm diameter

The white secondary duct is 100mm so as to limit (but not eliminate) further losses.

So that's 1 degree to 15 degrees in an hour. And I've extended the factory outlet so it splits into 2 in my kitchen.

Right thanks chaps I'm clearly some sort of idiot, I tested using a Thermometer same as Dellmassive this morning and got 16.5 degress intake temp with a 78 degress out put at the vent and over 100 degress when i fired it along the tube a bit ( ooooo missus )

Err... so, prior to firing up the heater, the inside of your van was colder then the inside of your fridge?

Yep! Although that makes sense, fridges have a bit of insulation so with the door closed the temperature shouldn't fluctuate as much. The fridge isn't on, fyi!
