Awning Rail

Mine is a twin slider so it allows me the option to put my Vango awning either side depending on site etc. Also I wanted a roll out awning for use on days out and when I'm on site (I use my van as a mobile office). I had the roll out fitting to both sides so I can chop and change to suit conditions.

Even if I only had a single sliding door I would still have gone with twin reimo rails as I think it makes the van look unbalanced if its only on one side.

Before I had them fitted we used to use the straps on the Vango awning and attach them to the roof bars. The problem with that is if it rains the water drips underneath and soaks the floor where you're getting in and out of the van so this was far from ideal. Since fitting the reimo rails the awning now fits perfectly and keeps everywhere nice and dry.
They also do a great job of stopping the rain dripping inside when you open the doors.

Having the Thule roll out to fit either side is also a bonus as it gives you twice the space when camping. Vango one side Thule the other as below.

Wow .... thank you so much @Lord Mfwic for all photos and supporting word. It all makes perfect sense. Certainly has made me think about best way forward.
Just a few questions to clarify a couple of points:
In photos 2 and 5 .... the Reimo Rail runs the full length of the van & comes over the front doors - 2 parts? i.e. LONG rail & then the Finishing Off End Profile that covers part of the front pax door.
Does the short front rail just act as a gutter/finishing off rail ONLY at the front?
Or does it also allow you to fix your awning to it as well?
Is the Short Rail screwed or just stuck with Bonding?
Did you fit the rail yourself or via a garage?

Sorry, just wanted to check these points. Really do appreciate the time you have taken.

Hi Paul,

The short rail at the front acts as a gutter and sends the rain down the edge of the screen. The main rail is screwed to the van and the front section is fixed with 3m adhesive tape. You feed the awning from the back of the rail.
See pics below. Excuse the dirty van, I haven't had the time to clean it since returning from Bala 2 weeks ago.
Top pic is the back of the rail where you would feed the awning and underneath is a pic showing how the front joins the main rail.

I had mine fitted along with the Thule roll out awning & brackets by a converter. It looks an easy fit if you're a fairly confident DIYer but I'd rather get it done professionally.

If you're going to be using an awning I would certainly recommend an awning rail. There are others on the market which may suit your needs better, I just preferred the look of Reimo.

I have gained a wealth of knowledge from members of this forum and I'm more than happy to be of assistance. If there is anything else you'd like to know please feel free to ask.

Regards

Gary

Thanks so much Gary @Lord Mfwic it really is good to see the close ups of this and see what is going on in detail. Makes perfect sense. Last year we had the advantage of the glorious summer so never really thought of an awning as we lived outside and only in the van to sleep! This year - somewhat different so we are looking at options! Reimo appears the way to go and I really like to finishing ends Front and back. Thanks Gary once again. Cheers for now Paul

Hi Folks , very exited to have the go ahead on an awning! So as ever almost immediately run into trouble ... RoofBars On So no channel fitting possible do We fit a rail , Reimo/Vermouse/bandrup... then the roll out awning (thinking the Thule 4900- lighter/cheaper) or just cut the included brackets down and mount to van with no rail?

What would you’all recommend please ? The rail option though more expensive means the awning brackets can be removed with the rivet nuts being temporarily resealed whilst fitting just the bracket mounts means they are going nowhere and if at any point they need to there’s a lot of Sika to deal with .... what you guys&girls do? If it were you ?(presently no rails, just oem RoofBars not on expensive multivan track- if only!)
Thnkuuuuuu
