Battery disconnection/re-connection

I didn‘t disconnect mine BUT I didn’t disconnect any fuel lines as it was just to remove the rear seat floor brackets.
I think the fuel lift pump in the fuel tank activates on opening the drivers door. If you don’t want to disconnect the battery you could just remove the fuse or unplug the pump I guess.

Have disconnected quite a few times for a couple of hours without any problems (for installing 2nd battery etc...). The only thing, as Spaghetti already told, is that you'll have to reset the time and reset the windows.

I found out about the auto window business myself after disconnecting the battery about 3 weeks or so ago (more correctly, I just loosened the + terminal to fit a BM2 but it must have been enough to cause a blip). I hadn't even got into the van since then until earlier this week and the windows didn't work as they should. It worried me at first until I looked at the handbook which details the very easy fix. Useful things handbooks - I really ought to learn to read them more than I do!

On mine, the stereo isn’t coded. Just fired straight back up. You’ll have reset the pinch position on the windows after. Just open, manually close with the switch and hold closed for a second or two. Job done.

Thanks Spag that is very helpful... i knew i had a problem with my windows after disconnecting my battery and was a shame i had to move my van after i took the seat out and tripped my air bag warning i cringed turning the ignition on lol

Grab a Carista for £15 to reset the airbag if it’s not already sorted. You get a 30 day trial period with it to do all the mods and reset any errors

Just a thought re radio, are the VW OEM radios vehicle-specific, don't have a code but can't be interchanged between vehicles?
I don't know that's why I'm asking?

Today I dropped the fuel tank to fit the stand pipe of my Planar heater into the sender unit in the tank , I disconnected the negative lead off the battery first. When tank was reconnected to fuel lines and put back into position , I reconnected the neg battery lead and am pleased to tell that van engine fired up ok and all I had to reset was the clock and windows. The most nerve wracking part was working on the sender unit as they look quite delicate .

Good Job well done. all is fine disconnecting the battery just don't disconnect any electrics and turn ignition on it puts the faults on the system .
