Battery Replaced Under Warranty, Vw Want To Know Why

My T6 has been very slow turning over this week, despite being used every other day for 50 miles. It’s a 2017 Kombi 150 so perhaps a pattern here.

Start /stop never works either, probably related, even after 25 miles of driving.

Interestingly just had van serviced today, mentioned problem to dealer and he told me to put it on charge. Not impressed....

Hi,
The battery on my 2017 T6 has also just died on me, on my drive. Called VW assist, AA man came and tested the battery before attaching jump leads to start her up.
Tester print showed that battery was knackered and needed replacing. AA man told me to take van to VW van centre, park it across the entrance up and switch off engine. That way they would have no option than to deal with it.
Showed Van Center the paperwork from the AA man, expecting them to say they would replace the battery there and then. I was wrong!
They said they would have to carry out tests on the battery themselves before anything could be resolved!!
Never mind, they gave me a shiny new courtesy van.............. as far as i'm concerned they can keep my van, It's been nothing but a massive disappointment from the day I took delivery of it, what with numerous squeaks and rattles from the dash, a tailgate that has been looked at 5 times and still not resolved, pulling to the left and now this!
What's worse is the attitude of the Van Center staff.
A friend of mine has already sold is 67 plate van, mine's next!!
Not impressed with Cardiff van centre aswell
When i was looking to purchase my VW California Ocean i went there, i knew more about a Cali than the sales man, he was adamant that there was a yellow Ocean, even after i informed him that option was only available on the Beach
Gave up arguing with him and went to Hereford van centre, who new their product and bent over backwards to help, even gave me a 7% discount and van and all options

Can anyone advise what is deemed a dodgy battery? Comment earlier that VW Assist opened bonnet and knew immediately ...

If it’s a Moll EFB battery that’s the problem ones. Varta AGM then you’re ok

Mine is a Moll. I’ve just measured 14.8 v when driving, this drops to around 12.0v engine off, then I’m seeing around 11.5 volts in the morning. It drops to around 10.4 when glow plugs kick in and it’s only just enough to start. (Measured at cigar lighter socket for convenience but won’t be far off the true figure).

Think I’ll revisit dealer before she lets me down but they said they’d need van for 2 days so they could charge 24 hours before testing, not sure what that’s about, seems like stalling tactics... I may go elsewhere.

Or you could just phone VW assist and say it isn't starting.....

There are other posts on the Moll battery issues.
Heritage Bristol were supposed to let me know when the new batteries were in, no contact after two weeks......my positive reviews on my treatment by them are being eroded.
It seems that the key is to get Assist out, not AA or authorised third party.

Thanks- so after a non start at weekend I called VW assist. As I live in the sticks that means an AA man attended. He did battery test and told me battery is ok and not a ‘fail’ (it’s about 300 cranking amps, compared to 700 for new battery) but there’s a 0.5 amp drain on the battery. Advised me to leave disconnected overnight and drive to dealer.

He might have a point, battery stayed around 12.1v mark. But even after an hour’s driving today it’s no better. I think the battery is marginal at best. Just a bit frustrating that nobody wants to take ownership of a problem, I’m beginning to doubt the value of VW warranty. So it’s probably back to the dealers for 2 days+ next week... sigh

Look at my highlight of the quoted post. Try simple wedges between the bottom of 'A' posts and the end of the dash, that has fixed a mysterious rattle on mine. It noticeably varied depending on how the sun had warmed the dash!

I just searched the forum for battery issues & found this gem to hopefully sort my dash rattle that has driven me insane for 2 years now.
Mine is more of a winter/cold day issue, and never seems to perform when it enters the gates to VW.

As for the battery, mine is struggling to turnover!
Had it tested at tyre centre, and it's lacking cranking amps.

Van under warranty, but Van Centre not interested whatsoever.

Leave it with us 'till we have time to look at it .... maybe before Christmas?
Break down and call VW Assist.
Buy a new battery and waive any warranty claim once the faulty battery is disconnected.
Don't bother us, go to a local garage that actually cares, and get an aftermarket battery fitted.

14 years of loyal custom to one dealership. 14 years of one way transactions to their till.
Never moaned, complained or raised any kind of issues before.

And yet they couldn't squeeze me in for a peek before Christmas just to rest my mind.

Next van will just come from the very cheapest source (probably via the internet) as there is nothing to lose really

I think you are right, reckon VW have refused to pay your dealer for the warranty claim so now they are trying to get more info together to put it through again
At the end of the day VW and/or your dealer will screw you any way they can if it means they don’t have to pay out for something or can charge you for something so tell them to do one
If they really want it invoice them for a days wages that you will waste running around sorting their mistake and see if they still want it

In case you havent sensed it I’m having a very anti VW period, they take all your money for the vehicle they want to sell you then fob you off and feed you sh1t when (not if) things go wrong, bunch of a55holes !!
Spot on Pauly!

On mine the plugs covering extra holes (for LHD/RHD) for windscreen wiper axles were rattling on cold days.

Thanks!
Sure enough, the bung on the nearside is loose, and just where the buzzing is coming from.
I will remove it and see how it goes ... and maybe glue it back in again.

Battery issues on my 2018 van, if I don't use it for a week or so it won't or struggles to start, voltage currently showing 11.5v not running and 14.6v when started

It's a Moll EFB+ Battery

Got the van booked in with VW on Wednesday to hopefully catch it under warranty, it's 3 years old in 2 weeks.

I have a C-Tek B2B charger wired in, should I disconnect this as they may try and worm out of paying up and blame my leisure battery set up for draining it?

Cheers

I have a similar issue with mine. After 3 days it struggles to start.

My brother gave up on the Cardiff cv centre as his lease T6 van has been a nightmare, his must have been a FRIDAY afternoon lemon, pre production piece of junk, his words not mine. Cardiff van centre most blatant liars, as he’s a trained motor mechanic he knows his stuff, they fob off his lease company many many time, until they blew his engine up, replaced it, then told him on collect that needed to be in for a cambelts to be replaced.
so he went to Hereford cv, he phoned to comment on how accommodating they are, chalk and cheese’
