BCM upgrade

Hi All, I've a BCM ending 087 and want to upgrade to 090. can this upgraded BCM come from any VW or does it have to be off of a Transporter? I know that I'll need to match the end letter for the keyfob frequency etc and copy across the settings in VCDS etc, just curious of the T5 / T6 had a different BCM to that on other VW cars?

It will need to be a transporter BCM as they all have different part numbers etc
What vehicle do you have, i thought all T6s have 090 BCMs ?

Hi, this ones a T5.1 2013 highline that I've converted to a camper a while ago. still plenty of life in the bus so wanted to make a few upgrades to her.

I was going to ask what you were looking to add..... But you answered above.

So you have a T5.1 2013 and want to fit a T6 BCM to add the extra bits.

....

Isn't the BCM part of the CP security system? With the clocks and keys? (So tied together) - or am I thinking of something else?

I believe that’s the instrument cluster that tied to the immobiliser. The key does need to be re coded for the new bcm thou

T6 uses the following BCMs:
7E0 937 090
7E0 937 090 B
7E0 937 090 C

7E0 937 090 D
7E0 937 090 E

Last 2 variants D & E can't have remote control paired via simple VCDS adaptation process.
C variant seems to be the best choice but B also provides the same retrofitting capability.

This is not correct as I have retrofited with D and used VCDS to code keyfobs. One thing to remember is extra wiring for number of things.

VW has changed the chip type at some point as the D variant was already relaeased and in use. So majority of D can't be paired via VCDS but some early ones yes.
And I didn't know that back in 2022.

Could you please share a full VCDS Auto-Scan?

Care to share the details?
@mmi

will dig scan shortly for you

in terms of cables: there are various options but few steps to go and all depends on your needs e.g. xenon lights or not, auto switch or not etc.:
1- From Instrument Cluster (28/29) to BCM 2 wires (54/57) - this enables electric windows etc.
2- From the E-box to the new fuse holder (3 fuses) and from here to the BCM - add load to BCM so you do not end up with errors like

01516 - Terminal 30; Left
011 - Open Circuit

3- From the SB fuse holder to the BCM - for BCM to control low and high beam
4- From the light switch to the BCM - for automatic switch
5- reversing light cable

There are other forums that describe it all very well.

Robert, have you came across upgrade from 86 D variant to 87 or higher with different prefix letter? I wonder whether there is any issue with electrics there?

I have recently upgraded to a 90 from an 86 as, the 90 was chosen purely down to cost. Everything works as it should apart from the interior lights, I have read of lots of people having this fault but I can't find a solution. Has anyone else had this? If I refit the old bcm they work straight away. A fault is present for short to positive and when tested there is a constant 7v coming from the switched earth on the bcm. Everyone else has the same fault code though so I guess it isn't a fault as such. Cheers.
