best 12 v electric blanket

Buy a better sleeping bag, and/or improve the insulation of the van. Alternatively, fit a diesel burning heater.
Either option would be better than flattening your leisure battery.
Duvalay have a 10.5 tog duvet option, and you could add a fleece throw over that.

We bought one (12volt blanket) a few years back and it was crap. As above better sleeping bag, and/or improve the insulation of the van or what we did was fitted a diesel heater and have not looked back.

This might be an option for you

I fish all year in all weathers.

When the temperature drops close to freezing I use a 5 season sleeping bag with a thermal cover over the top.

I also use a hot water bottle which makes a massive difference.

Some fishing brand do a heated sleeping bag but not had great reviews.

I can recommend trakker or Nash sleep systems.

Do those come with the powerpack as well?

That price is rather steep then.

Ironically the current need isn't for the Caravelle or camping, the XC70 has a blocked heater matrix I don't have time to deal with before a long roadtrip in half term. Myself and MrsR have the lovely heated seats in the front but I'm pondering a heated fleece for an hour or so to help the younguns in the back. At about 100w should be good off the little 150w inverter it has.

You should be fine. Our double leccy blanket has a max power output of 130W which is waaay too warm. We normally have it on minimum setting which is 60W.

Thanks for the suggestion but I doubt I will get enough heat out of a cigarette lighter socket to heat the air.

Well not in a way I would be happy with at least (melty time) I did order a similar one to see if they were as sketchy as they appeared and needless to say it went straight back.

I'm happy to pull 100w through the inverter in the boot as I've done that a few times at events, 60w would be even better. It's still a plug in but with a suitably reassuring heft to both the cables and plug - it also predates the copper coated aluminium madness.

That or I'll take the small Beaudens from the van to run it.

I went for one of these Dreamland Black Heated Throw

Few things to note:
  • It's rated at 150w but I measured it closer to 160w
  • The lower heat settings work by shorter bursts at full power rather than low wattage
  • My 150w Beaudens LiFePo (with no declared surge rating) was happy running it
  • My 150w inverter with 200w surge rating was not
It does work quite well, MrsR road tested it on the sofa and reported it's not obviously hot but more like the sun on a travel blanket on an autumn day. She's also campaigning that she should have it in the house once we get back from our trip
