What are people's thoughts or recommendations for a tyre inflator?

My old manual foot pump has (a) just died and (b) was crap anyway.

Is more expensive more accurate?
Brands to avoid?
Digital Vs analogue dial?

Discuss...
Thanks.

I’d like to know the forum’s thoughts on this as well. I’d like to be able to keep it in the van for when we are away.

I've got DeWalt 18v drills and driver. Will look if they do an inflator.
They definitely do mate. Watched my pal boost his tyre back up on someone’s driveway last week in the dark with his Dewalt one after picking up a nail  That one has a handy torch light on it as well which helped in that situation

I’ve had this one for 7 years and it’s been great. No longer available but think they do a new version. If you’ve got DeWalt batteries then that would be a great way to go. I prefer digital with an auto cut off so I can do other things while it’s running.

IMG_3011.pngGot this at Christmas. Seems a decent bit of kit. Used it to pump up tyres a couple of times and works well. Not had to use it as a jump starter yet tho. £92 on Amazon prime at the moment

I think it depends how often you think you might use it

I have a few of the £30 ring ones in work vans that do the job, set the pressure and turn it on and it does the job, used them for years, only down side is needing to plug it into the 12v cig socket to power, not a problem for occasional use, i would say they are good to around +- 1 psi

Now im doing more track days and tweaking tyre pressures more dependant on track/weather etc i have one of the 18v dewalt units, does the same job with the added convenience of being battery powered, it also seems a bit more accurate and would say its accurate to around 0.2 psi

Yeah, good point. I've never been very good at checking my pressures on any vehicle I'm often too lazy/tight to drive to a forecourt and pay £1 for air.

I'm thinking if I had a reliable, easy to use unit I'd be more likely to check them every weekend.

Some good things to look at and think of here, thanks team.

Regardless of which unit you end up with the best thing you can buy is a quick release adapter for the end, makes it so quick and easy to attach and release the hose and also stop air leaking out while undoing it !

Something like this, for what they cost it’s a no brainer

Normally the tyre pressure is checked from cold of course and I guess you know that but is amazing how many people adjust pressures after a run. Though if we started a journey and felt a tyre was low we could check the pressure on the opposite tyre same axle and adjust to that. I agree with what you suggest about ease of use. Some of the newer pumps have digital settings in both PSI an Barr so we can just connect up set the pressure and then its done. No need to detach take a reading and go again or let excess out, the pump just stops when pressure is achieved.

+1 for the quick adapter. Game changer

I'd get one that runs off the van's 12volt system, no point having an inflator if the power tool battery has gone flat because you haven't touched it for months. Just my take on it.

Yeah, not sure I can justify £100+ on a DeWalt battery unit. Ours is a social van not a work van so although I'd be ok at home, I don't want to start having to carry the drill battery around with me.

This one..

That's a great idea Pauly  ....(although that seller has pretty crappy feedback) so I'm gonna look for the same item from somewhere more reliable.

I have 3 tyre inflators, all of them free with motors i've bought.
2 from previous Saabs I used to run and one VW one that came with the van .
