Hello!
As the title states, im looking to buy the biggest possible tyre (BFGKO2) to my Twin monotube projekt AT 8x18 ET45. With the Koni 35 mm lift kit.

All the best Søren.

Well a 365/65/17 for sure on standard suspension........I am sure the other bigger tyre boys be along in minute

Hi @Ynggunnar and welcome.

BFGoodrich UK tyre range here;

BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 All-season Tire

Tyre size comparison site here;

Alloy Wheel & Tyre Fitment Calculator. Offset, Tyre Stretch and Speedo Error | Will They Fit

Maybe put 265/65 r17 in as a starting point and try options from the 18” range to find similar diameter?
The 265/60 r18 has a very similar diameter.

Hope this helps.
Andy
Thanks a lot!
I dont have the car yet to measure and so, or maybe i just can't figure that calculator.

You’re most welcome @Ynggunnar.
To use the calculator first enter the sizes of the original wheel/tyre that the van came with;
215/60 r17 is the standard size for vans that come with a ‘17” chassis’.
This is ‘usually’ used for the higher output engines or highest weight rating.
For example 150ps or above, or T32 (3200kg) maximum weight of the van.

Many vans come with a ‘16” chassis’. These can be supplied with 215/65 r16 or also 205/65 r16 tyres.
The diameter of these will be different.
The van speed computer will be matched with the size of tyre, to indicate actual speed.
The original size of the wheel/tyre won’t affect the largest size of tyre you can fit, but it will affect the ‘gearing’ of the speedometer.
You may need to have the van speed computer recalibrated for your new tyres.
Good luck with your new car/van.

Thanks again for elaborating on the calculator. So from what i understand in your explanation it depends on what "inch chassis the car comes with? I thought all VW vans were the same. The car comes with a 16 inch chassis. But i still will be able to fit 17" right? i might have to change the brakes then? Im really new to figuring this out my self, so appreciate your help alot :)

I have no idea what the maximum size wheel/tyre package would fit your particular vehicle perhaps you might give more details of what vehicle trim your waiting for, suspension details perhaps. etc I have 255/55R18 on a T6 Caravel Executive, it originally came with 255/45R18. The T6 Caravel Executive from the factory normally came with a 20mm drop from standard height. 17" Wheels with something equivalent of course would also fit. I Have no rubbing off road allowing full articulation I would prefer a lift for my proposes as their is not very mux safe spece so on full articulation with mud and sticks twigs and the odd stone jammed in it would then scrape. Many suspension companies offer various lift including air which would probably allow a larger package but after that body modifications would be necessary. Startseite - Seikel have representatives in many countries as do other off road specialists they produce lists and tables of what might be required for specific wheel packages.

Please excuse me but is this for off road prowess and capability of appearance looks only? By the way if you look around the Seikle site, they had a portal axle modification that allowed very large wheels and tyres. I would love that!!:grin bounce:

The VW phrases ‘16 inch’ and ‘17 inch’ refer to the sizes of the front brakes that the van comes with.
There won’t be a specific need to change the brakes, but just to be aware that 16 inch wheels won’t fit over the larger brakes.
This won’t be a problem for you, as you are intending to fit 17 inch wheels.
Just be aware that the larger the diameter of tyre that you fit the more it will affect the gearing and indicated speed.

Original 16 inch tyres could also have a smaller diameter than original 17 inch ones.

So your new big 17 inch tyres would have slightly more of an effect on the speedo.

Your speedo could indicate 100kph, but you could be travelling at maybe 105 or 110kph.
Some people have needed to have their speedo recalibrated after fitting larger tyres. The Auto Cruise Control can get confused. Also, some have found problems with the manual gear indication display.
Do some research on the forum and ask more questions!

The majority of speedo's give an exaggerated speed of a few percent may differ between individual vehicles. In my own case going 255/45R16 to 255/55R16 gives a more accurate reading via GPS and those RADAR advisory signs, they always agree with what I am keeping to which is nearly always aiming to be dead on or just under even before crossing any zone. I do agree that is not a scientific measurement but only an approximation but it reads more accurately than he original fitting.

One would need to exercise better diligence though, make a slight mistake with a speedo reading dead on, compared to one reading + 3 - 5% or more. Although I do not take advantage of any leniency, most UK Police areas usually adopted a 10% +2mph leeway before enforcement. I understand many are dropping the additional +2mph in order to collect more revenue £££. North Wales has been the exception for many years and have zero tolerance prosecuted for just 1mph over. I know at least one person who has circummed to that. It is also an offence to have an under reading speedometer. The new 20mh zones all over Wales are very difficult to adhere to and authorities a make ££££ out of it, which is exactly why it was introduced! I am experimenting with cruise permanently set on 20mph. I hate cruise or most automated things but 20mph overf very extended distance is awkward, especially as it causes a lot of anger from some following vehicles, that will eventually vent there spleens some rather dangerously! Still that is UK, not sure where are new friend is from?

Thanks for getting back to me, and sorry for the late reply. Its a t32, im quite sure its a high line, not sure how to determine 100 percent?
Its gonna be used as an everyday vehicle, i work in the forest so it will be driving off road everyday, and on trips ofcourse. In Denmark.
At the moment i found one guy fitting 255/70/16 which looks mad molding in the back needed. 16" wont fit in my case.
But from what i can read online, 245 65 17 also needs molding of the back, which would be fine haven't seen youtube of the molding part yet.
