Is it best to get them put on by vw in factory or somewhere else

It’s the dealership that fit them not factory, if you want piece of mind they are fitted correctly do them yourself or you could end up with Leaky Door Seal I Think!
For me I’d spend the hard earned cash elsewhere unless you need the rails for a purpose

Yes . I would fit them yourself after my leaky episode above. I've also seen these on another van this week that may be less prone to leaking if you can manage with bars and not rails. I may be swapping to these if any more water gets in.

i got mine with the awning rail from camper solutions just give them a good dose of silicon when you fit and they dont leak

Off the top of my head I think they cost me £110 that was 2 years ago though, why not become a vip member and get some off @Pauly with he forum discount
