Blind spot monitoring system included in the Standard Configuration T6.1 or not?

I didn't order the rear wing doors but they gave it to me anyway.

Their excuse was they upgraded my van to barn doors because they didn't have the micro chip for the blind spot sensor. And I'd have to wait longer to get my vehicle.

I've already waited a year so I just accepted it.

It is a shame though the blind spot monitoring would have been useful.
Wow, that’s unbeliveble! So dissapointing, I dont need bloody barn doors, that’s not an upgrade in my opinion for my needs, worst case they need to add side back windows in compensation of no blind spot monitoring, this is outrageous in my opinion.

When did you order and when did you get your Van?

Thanks for sharing the info mate!

Cheers.

 In which parallel universe are barn doors an upgrade?
Totally agree, for me barn doors are a total downgrade, I would not get barn doors on my Van as it does not suit my needs at all, I find it outrageous VW doing that, rather might be a silly exucuse for their mistake if all we hear is true. Worst case they should notify customer and ask for the approval and not taking that decision on behalf of the customer, ridiculous. For me blind spot monitoring and Tail gate were some of the reasons I went VW in the first place….

I ordered it mid October 2021. And I picked it up on Monday last week.

I have made some complaints and they did offer to buy it back from me and reorder. Which means I'd have to wait again, and they said they don’t have an ETA on when one will be available with the blind spot monitoring because of the so called micro chip shortage.

I've decided to keep the van. Honestly the barn doors are an advantage to my van usage as it's supposed to be a work van. And I do often walk into and hit my head on the tailgate of my old van. But I'm not going to tell them that.

So I've been given an update.

The VW dealership has offered me a refund of a certain amount of $ to cover the cost of installing an aftermarket blind spot monitoring system. I just need to give them a quote for the installation and they will send me the money. Does anyone know of an Auto Electrician around the Brisbane area that would give me this quote? I've tried to contact a few local to me, but they've not answered the phone or replied to any of my emails.

Does anyone know if you can retrofit the genuine blind spot monitoring kit to the barn door version of the van? I know they usually put the sensor in the dead space below the tail lights which is plastic on the tailgate version but on the barn door version it's part of the door hense is metal and can't be installed in that location. Though most other sensors on other vehicles are in the plastic bumper bar, not sure why it can't be just installed there instead.

Spoke with my dealer and told me that it sounds more like your dealer’s mistake than a factory decision to “upgrade” due to chip shortage. Good you’re getting it paid for

Well, that's as long as I get a quote for it.

I was looking up KUFATEC website. It looks like the cost of the unit is €653.76 including delivery. This kind of works out to be about $1008.38AUD. So I'm thinking I should be asking for at least this much.
