Andy, By coincidence, I was in my local Currys/PC World this morning and they had one on display. If you're near a branch and they have them in stock, they will let you connect one to your phone to try it for yourself. FWIW, they seemed to have a pretty wide selection of alternatives as well.

Update..

I sat my iPad on the Bose mini link on the dash, and sat in the back of my Kombi. Plenty of volume, which I knew wouldn’t be a problem, but it also gave a good impression of stereo separation. I was pleasantly surprised and ended up sitting there for half an hour in my pj’s listening to music and watching Netflix.

The best thing though, headphones.

Is there anything small enough for van use that’s stereo? I’d like something like this but I couldn’t live with mono.

They're £99 each without looking for a discount. The app is free.

It's an option. Personally I wouldn't bother as I think its fine on its own but the app does facilitate stereo if required.

Andy - I also bought a neoprene lens case similar to this:

I couldn't find the actual listing but there are hundreds of them like it on eBay. The XL was a perfect fit and I paid under £3 for it. Although I wouldn't want to drop it from a height, the (approx) 4mm neoprene seems to give plenty of protection from everyday lumps and bumps.
