Brand new garrett turbo lasted 45mile and blew

Have a t6 102 highline it’s done 106k and blew its turbo last year. Replaced the turbo and done two journeys in it totaling no more than 45 mile and the new turbo has snapped the shaft. It was mot’d yesterday taxed this morning didn’t make lunchtime! I’m wounded to say the least think my love of VW is dwindling.

Was any investigation done to establish why the old turbo was kaput?

For example, heat causing oil to carbonise in the oil supply pipe and cause a blockage is very common on many tubby motors, and replacing the turbo without investigating such things can be very bad news for the new turbo I'm afraid.

It's difficult to be sure from after, but it seems quite possible the second failure might not be down to VW.

Fingers crossed it gets resolved as painlessly as possible for you.

When the last one went it was put to me that the DPF being blocked would have caused a back pressure causing the bearings to fail. It took out the intake manifold at the same time last time it had a recent (last year) egr as was solid I have found oil in the boost pipes so far will have the turbo back off tomorrow will check the feed pipe when I get it off.

Update: the turbo has been removed feed and return both had oil in and the turbo it’s self was full of oil however the shaft nut was missing on the clean side. Have so far looked inside the charge cooler no sign of the nut have dropped the oil nowt in that not really sure where we go from here as if it’s gone into the inlet manifold it’s more than likely been through the combustion chamber.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
