A perfect example of why many of us should use this forum as guidance to do as much of the work ourselves as possible.
Sound deadening, insulation and carpet lining is basic stuff that most people can do themselves with planning and patience and at a far higher standard than shown above.
As for police getting involved in this situation when so many real crimes get no attention whatsoever makes me sick.
This should be questioned with the police ombidsum and would love to hear the view of the ex bobby's on this forum.

He literally said "I need to speak to you because you've left a post on a forum", asked him if he'd read it, he said no! Then I told him about my right of freedom of speech and told him to go away and leave us alone, it felt like harassment. Im just calling the police to find out who he was and to get more information because it feels very dodgy.

I totally agree, we are now going to convert the van ourselves. As for the police, even the call handler said it was very strange as there are a lot of emergencies tonight. Looks like they will go to many lengths to try and keep people quiet. Bullies.

Did he leave you his ID number?

I guess if you rang the police and said you’d been ripped off they’d say it was a civil matter so why on earth are they getting involved doing door to door visits

I’d raise a complaint about the police visit, on top of having a load of shit work done and being £1000’s out of pocket you then get plod knocking on your door because of a f***ing forum post?!

I’d be apocalyptic and the police wonder why nobody has any faith in them any more? Always bleating about a lack of resources, but because somebody said some negative words on the internet they can muster up a house visit within an hour or two? Try getting the twats out after your bike/van/tools get nicked.

Agreed. Any offence allegedly committed would be a civil matter, not a criminal matter - you did right to tell them to sling their hook.

Yeah, I do, the entire house is covered by CCTV. I didn't actually even open the door to him, I kept it on the chain, I'm not even sure male officers should be going out to females? Then he kept telling me to let him around the back. Odd. I'm currently on hold to the police to find out more info about this. I'm not the only customer the police are harassing though, so feel it proves something wrong is going on.

Very odd and highly irregular IMO.

@Sackmycook, do you have an opinion on this?

Exactly this. No, he didn't leave his number or his name.

Here is my in-bias and honest opinion on bust stop vw

I first got in contact with bust stop vw in later feb 2022 they seemed very friendly and willing to help after speaking to Craig Mortimer and Lisa Hammond for over 2 hours about options on my camper van conversion they agreed to get a quotation together and to email it to me (Annex A) £20898 good English pounds, me and my wife didn't have that kind money, but where determined to make this dream a reality. After countless bank calls and some luck we arranged a re mortgage of our property to raise the money and set about looking for our dream van for the very nice people at bust stop to convert.

We eventually found a van that would work for our conversion and snapped it up as soon as we could (26k for the van total borrowed on mortgage £55k)

I got in contact with Bust stop vw again and arranged a meeting, in we went with our 1 week old new born son determined to get our new van converted so our new family could have the holidays and adventures me and my wife had when we where children

we got a quote (AnnexB) and agreed a timeline with Craig Mortimer of 10 weeks this was the start to finish for the van conversion, we where also asked to give a deposit of 12k so that they could order in the materials needed to get the conversion going. this was payed on the 18/5/22 and processed by Lisa Hammond (AnnexC/D)

We dropped our van off with Bust stop vw on the 30th May 22 with eager anticipation of what was going to happen.
we gave the company some time to get started but started to get a little worried after 4 weeks had past and things seemed really quiet from the company, i was expecting a update phone call or something but shrugged it off as our new born baby son was taking priority and these guys where professionals and knew what they where doing.

July 9th 22 - Disaster - bankruptcy/theft/lies/fraud

After working away all week me and my wife had agreed we needed to contact Bust stop for a update on our van and we decided we would pop down to the shop on Saturday the 9th just to see how things where going.
as i was getting my son ready, i revived a phone call that would change my whole life "have you seen the news about Bust stop vw, its all over facebook, they have been steeling from people and have filed for bankruptcy. I didn't want to believe it and was shook to my core, i quickly googles for info and found there google at to say the shop was permanently close, I also searched Facebook to find that had been closed also. I'm shocked and distress but decided i should jump into my car and go to the shop. Upon arrival i find the place locked up and find a noticed half ripped off the window this is from a company called wilson field and after a quick google i find this to be a liquidation company.

I have a look around the property and can see my van outside in a side storage area with a few other vans, the area looked secure but i decided to give the padlock a tug to check, low and behold its unlocked just pushed closed, i got straight to my van to look at what work had been carried out as this was 5 weeks in to a 10 week conversion. Nothing had been done and whats more my van seemed to have a few didn't that looked so poorly touched up it was unreal, i honestly at this point was like WTF I've just been robbed, these guys never had any intention of starting my van just wanted the money :( out of pure frustration i pulled on my van door and find it to be open. so not only was my van now in a insecure area it was also unlocked (i should also point out they had my only key), i was fuming at this point but also got really lucky another couple turned up and gave me some information about what had occurred and the fact the owners/ associates listed below where suspected of theft and fraud.

Turns out there are about 15-20 people that Bust Stop VW have lied to about the various things just read previous posts here not to mention the taking of money without the intention of completing and work.
Here are some photos of my beautifully started van after 5 weeks a Bus Stop Wankers not to mention dents that have clearly has tipex used on them.

My heart goes out to you fella. Potentially having to fight to get your deposit back is bad enough, but having your van damaged and having the costs of a re-mortgage to service whilst everything gets sorted (if it ever fully does) is truly an awful situation. These shysters obviously haven't got a shred of common decency - yes, companies go bust, but they couldn't even be bothered to secure the assets that were under their control. That is utterly despicable.

What is the current situ re your van? Have you managed to retrieve it, or have you secured it, at least? If the van is still in their unlocked compound, I'd be tempted to stick a security device on it (a wheel-clamp and/or a pedal lock) and secure their gates with my own padlock (though be sure to contact administrators to tell them what you have done and why).

Good luck sorting this out - I sincerely hope it gets promptly sorted to your satisfaction... but I ain't holding my breath :(

Have you looked up the directors home address on Companies House?

A door step visit to politely discuss the return of my money would be on the cards.

the beauty of being a director of a company is you cannot hide where you live

Further photos of the new panels they had apparently ordered new wood for and was apparently cutting to size, panels that they wanted £800 for hence me requesting new panels, not old or damp ones like the ones we removed - they even gave us a tool to remove the old panels knowing full well we had fully stripped the van back then had the audacity to ask for £800 after the initial consultation and quote and then fitted old mouldy mismatch panels and even stripped panels from two other vans as the reg's were on them to use in our van.

Mixed information from the police between last night and this morning, last night I was told by an officer on the phone to make sure all my doors and windows were locked as no calls had come through and there was no logged calls to my address, then this morning spoke to a seargent as I put in a complaint and was told the receptionist from Bus Stop Campers has been calling the police all week saying that I have apparently been making numerous accounts on this forum and sharing her personal details, which I have not, I've got one account which as you say does not include any of my details and I've never previously shared her information, she is making up lies and wasting police time. I also told the police that it's a civil matter if I want to leave a review and that I have a right to share previous correspondence between myself and Bus Stop Campers which I have now done. It's almost like saying if you order a takeaway and it's bad that you're not allowed to review it or mention the takeaways name. I was unfortunately scammed by four staff members of that company and my only aim is to help other people avoid this happening to them. This set of people were all very manipulative and if I can at least help one person to avoid this happening to them in the future then it is worth speaking up about.

I would be wary of any police officers turning up unannounced.
Craig Mortimers daughter is an officer, he proudly told us this while doing our quote. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was using that to his advantage. No end to what they’d do thinking they’re above the law. Disgusting.

Did you ask the sergeant why there was no log of the visit or how the police had identified you as being the person allegedly posting about the receptionist, given the anonymous nature of forum posts?

In your position, my next move would be ask to speak to the Chief Inspector, or even the Chief Superintendent and inform them you are extremely concerned about the events that have occurred and unhappy with the explanation(s) provided thus far. Whoever you speak to, ensure you make them fully aware that your next move (failing satisfactory conclusion) will be to raise a complaint directly with the IOPC. Hopefully, that would be enough to energise someone with big enough boots to get to the bottom of what has occurred (but, if not, be prepared to act on your threat).

Unfortunately, not all police officers are the paragons of virtue we would wish them to be - the police are drawn from, and therefore reflect, the general population: nothing more, nothing less. So, abuse of authority and circumvention of established procedures and processes cannot be be ruled-out just because they're police officers.

Equally the boys in blue take a dim view of anyone impersonating them!
