Hello HotandCold. Post is few years back now but I’m looking at doing same thing as you have and wondered what route you took with the filler pipe?

Hi, the fill pipe goes out through the floor, just behind the nearside wheel arch, it needs a careful check to be clear of obstructions

There is no need to drill holes in your van body. It is possible to use a pressurised fill system with a hose connection and check valve below the tank level.
The option is also there to use a header filling system by-passing the check valve.
Minimal work and doesn’t compromise the paint and galvanising.
