Now that possibly seems too big an interval but somewhere in between is what other vehicles I have owned generally were.Mainland Europe is 10years/220000kms strange UK has such a small time limit

Many times I wish I lived near you guys at Bognor Motors. 12000 miles is just a bit too far unfortunatelyFor anyone near us, we can do your Cambelt and water pump change and lend you a nice spangly T6.1 whilst the work is carried out

Is APS in Brackley or VagTech in Milton Keynes close to you?Is there a @BognorMotors equivalent here in the West Midlands, ha ha!!
I really need to do some research on where i can get this work done at the right price (and I appreciate this is subjective) without having to resort to the local VW Van Centre who want £640 for the work (who also go ahead and 'valet' your van for free - but forget to ask if it wanted). I'm in Warwickshire if anyone does have any recommendations? Thanks a million.
Brackley could work! APS you say? I'll take a look. Thanks. Is APS in Brackley or VagTech in Milton Keynes close to you?
My local independent (VW specialist) charged me £499 using VW parts. So what is the difference in price from a independent garage for cambelt and water pump.? Our van is 4 years old and just under 10000 miles
Gates timing belt and auxiliary belt, new water pump, £440 all in, at my local independent garage, happy with that.
Yeah - i feel your frustration. I've mentioned this in another thread, but my local VW van centre stung me for £277 for replacing the cab seal when i bought the van. Last weekend I ordered a seal for the passenger side (£34) and replaced it in 45mins. I was livid..... VW van centres can charge whatever they like, it seems.I've got mine booked in with my local garage to change cam belt and water pump (based in Petersfield, Hants). They are charging £505.00 inc vat using VW parts. I was quoted £760 by my "local" VW commercial dealer and £576 by another VW com dealer!? I didn't understand why there was such a difference for a genuine like for like but they would price match.
@Dan Morritz. There is a VAG specialist in Gloucester called 360 Automotive who come highly recommended in the local VW community but I confess that I haven't used them myself as I'm sticking with main dealers until my warranty is up. That said, I've have spoken to them and they seem to talk a very good fight - enough to give me the confidence to use them when I need some work doing once free of VW. Might be a bit too far for you though.
I tried to give them a chance last time my van needed a service. It was just too much effort for them to give me a price apparently.
I ended up driving to Listers in Droitwich...
