Can’t say this is a good flywheel surely?

Mine went into VW van centre for something else and mine doesn't sound anywhere near that bad and they said it needed doing as a matter of urgency! 14 months and 10k miles later still sounds the same!
I assume you had it done but still sounds the same?

No, i took it to VW specialist who had serviced it the week prior as VW wanted £2200, he said he had heard much worse and wouldn't change it based on the noise it was making. (it may have been a bit less than the video)

I’m booked in for suspicious DMF rattles at my local Commercials this Friday. I have had the issue checked out by my Indy who has good knowledge of DMF failures and has confirmed that the noise relates to the flywheel. Van still under warranty so hopefully no arguments. I’ll update after the visit to VW.
Ps - Does anyone know if the DMF issue is common across the range - ie 102 manual to 204 DSG, are the flywheels all the same specification for different power output?

Have had an issue with my t5.1 now
Had the dmg etc changed last year at my mate’s garage all ok until we arrived at Lake District towing the caravan
Never had an issue before but when pulling away up a steep slope with caravan the clutch started slipping and smelling and pedal dropped
Stopped straight away checked servo for leaks and under pedal all ok
Have been out without caravan on and seems ok
Any thoughts??
Will get it booked in when ( if ) we get back
Van is a 180 bhp manual and have had from new

Reading all the posts about DMF failure I could conclude that the part is not up to the job and should be redesigned - somewhat of an understatement! Given that most Transporters can tow 2500kg the flywheel should be designed to cope well with the extra load placed on it when moving off with a trailer behind. Even when not towing the DMF has so many issues and not just VW. This all requires to be exposed in the media!

Well I took my van in for a coolant loss issue, this was with extended warranty and they flagged the fly wheel being noisy. I had no idea or known drivability issues. I thought ok, great. Thanks……so a few weeks later I was still hearing the rattling sound that I could hear previous to them diagnosing it off the cuff. Took it to a Skoda garage (was a customer doing me a favour) my friend called me in the work shop and 3 mechanics and myself could hear what sounded like a pebble in barrel from the fly wheel. Strange after only a few weeks right? Took it back to the VW dealer in question and they stated all ok totally normal. Long story short, I started to get bad vibrations…after only 14 odd months of the supposed new one being installed. I’ve just had it replaced at my own cost as I knew it was getting serious, and after a few visits and getting fobbed off. And the van drives so much better. Which begs the question..did they actually replace it? And if not why did they say they did? I’m in a dispute.

Had mine replaced at a trusted Indy, still get more noise and vibration than I would consider normal for any engine.
I do wonder if once a DMF has gone it just buggers up everything either side of it too.

Depended how bad it is. I asked to see my old one and had a new one I bought to compare it too that I gave to install. The springs were weak and the movement even tho minimal up and down would be enough to cause vibrations at high revs. But yeah if it’s noisy it’s on the way out, if you feel vibrations get I done asap
