can you adjust the speedo for the tyre size?

KwikFit?!! Can a mod add that term to the Barred Words list?!!

Given that you are aware that the speedo is under reading, I'd carry on as you are and get your monies worth out of the tyres before spending any more. The added bonus is that the van isn't recording as many miles as it's actually doing either.

Ok, so your software will have different compensations in for diameter. This has been discussed on here but is not something I have dabbled with.

Not sure how able you are, but best thing you can do is take the wheel off and see what space they are as skyliner33 says.

If you want to stay legal, then the load index is key. For T32 you need 103 minimum.

Not sure I would advocate asking kwik fit anything, but your choice.
Believe it not, I got four new boots, (103 rated Goodyears) fitted at home by kwikfit. They were £200 cheaper than anywhere else and the young lad that done it was brilliant and knew to reverse fit them onto brand new alloys.(not a mark on them)

@RGA6.1 as for the sizes, two were 245/45/20 on 8.5” and rears 275/40/20 on 10”. The speedo now reads exact compared to two different gps sources.

So if reverse fitting is better, why are all tyres not fitted this way, new alloys or not?

My guess is time. Mine have to be reverse fitted because of the depth or something. But they have to faff and get a plastic cover that fits into the machine first so the face of the alloy doesn’t get damaged when they go on the machine face down. It seemed to be a lot of messing about when I had mine fitted.

So......here are some pictures. They seem to be a 20" replica of a wheel that VW do in the 18". I have contacted the dealer to ask what exactly the wheel is. I can't find any data on the wheel but I am too scared to take off. Sorry for being a numpty!wheel1.jpgwheel5.jpgwheel4.jpgwheel3.jpgwheel2.jpg

Your going to have to pull a wheel off to check the width, but I would think they are a 9”. Whilst off make sure they are correctly weight rated - Should be stamped into the back - There are good and bad copies out there - The bad ones are really bad, and often underrated and poorly made.

I’d go with what VW suggest if its a 9” Rim, and put on a 275/35 - This is the best size for this rim and works really well, and the most commonly fitted tyre for this size.

Let us know when you find out

Thank you.

I’m very tempted to cut my losses and go for some genuine VW 18s or 20s……….then sell these 20s with the tyres.

We sell all wheels if you need a price - On a mail order or fit while you wait basis. At least you know what you are getting and can put a decent tyre on - Although for a budget the Acceleras are the best of the lot.

You’ve got Sportline replicas. They’ll sell, either on here, eBay or Facebook Marketplace.

There are plenty of sets of 18” and 20” wheels for sale on the forum, including some genuine (18”) Sportline’s..

So……I have cut my losses and have put a new set of VW 18” wheels on. They perhaps don’t look quite as good as the 20s did but the speedo now works perfectly and the 20” wheels are on eBay. Thanks for all your help and advice.

What model wheels are they ?
