Hi, I use the following and they do one without a screen which makes it a little cheaper. Wolf Shield The only thing I would say is it's too loud for a van but I suppose that's better than being too quite.

Not just for your vans! These things are really handy for taking on your holidays when you're staying in Air-B&Bs, cheap hotels etc. Over 40 people die per year from carbon monoxide poisoning in the UK. That's just the UK, where safety rules can often be a bit stricter than other places. The figure is much higher across Europe and the rest of the world. They take up hardly any space in your suitcase but give you that extra piece of mind when you're away. You can get them for £10 - £15 quid. A small price to pay for a bit of added safety.
Daft question - where do you mount the detector?
I have one above the 'wardrobe'. Probably better in the open space rather than hidden on a shelf.

I've got the wolf shield with the screen, stuck on the end of the rear cupboards just above my head when driving, I do hope it doesn't go off whilst driving, they are very loud! Mines fitted on the rear cupboards too just above the diesel heater controls. Not far from where I sleep so if it ever goes off in the night

I don't have a boiler in my van
One lesson learned from the narrowboat (gas boiler and solid fuel stove) is that CO monitors don't enjoy damp conditions - expect them not to last as long as they would in a house before they start to false trigger.
At home (solid fuel stove) I use the Kidde one with the screen. We've had one fail (very loudly at 4am) but the screen means you can double check things.
Currently on the narrowboat we have a Fire Angel combined unit, that's an optical smoke sensor
