Hi this is my first post on ,been just using tofind out all about my Dreaded cfca engine in my T5 sportline 2013 , have spent over £7000 trying to get it fixed. What a want to find out is the my engine the right one that was ment to be rebuilt or have I been conned .The number on engine is 03L 021AP 80HBH V400, what drew my attention to it was I noticed different sump when trying to see were oil was leaking from also now developed leak from gearbox from engine side. Any information or help appreciated,.Mark

Not sure what information you are looking for or who would have it?
CFCA is a very reliable engine if steps are taken to blank the EGR early on.
Don’t put any money into it before you’ve carried out an oil analysis.
Have a Search with ‘CFCA’.

Did you spend the money with a garage ? If so I’d be having a word with them! For that money you could have had a new short motor with revised EGR cooler.

When i ask why different sump was told because of oil pick up , not sure what that is or means, but noticed because of different sump there’s bolts missing that connects old one to gearbox .what am trying to work out is the engine number from above a T5 cfca engine

There’s something way out. The bolt holes don’t appear to be aligned. If I were you I’d get an independent survey done or maybe someone you know

Yet another concerned CFCA-engined Transporter owner here :/

My engine isn't using oil at a particularly alarming rate (topped up with half a litre after 8k miles last time), but I was concerned enough about the reputation of this engine to get an oil analysis done when it was recently serviced. The EGR on the engine is the first version so one of those thought to be the culprit for premature engine wear.

I've owned the van from pretty much new (5k miles) and it's now on about 65k miles. It's about 12 years old now, so pretty low mileage for its age. Possibly inadvisably it's been on a long life service regime so is getting new oil approx. every 2 years. Last oil was in for 9k miles and I've attached the oil analysis report. Main findings are that the aluminium level is pretty high (113 ppm) as are iron levels (154 ppm).

My dilemma now is what to do, should I try and get shot of it based on those readings alone or should I do more analysis into the state of the engine, say with a compression test? And then maybe get a new Rev D EGR fitted if it doesn't look too bad. But I'm pretty concerned that the engine is too far gone, even if I'm not getting any real symptoms now.

Appreciate it's not easy to advise on here reliably, but if anyone has any thoughts as to how badly gone the engine might be from the oil analysis results alone (if that's possible) and what next steps might be sensible, it'd be most appreciated!

Thanks!

All depends if you like it and want to keep it, spend on it. If it's just a bus to use and thinking of changing in the near future, get rid. It's not a cheap job and once you start you are committed.
