EU relaxation of diesel emission limits was illegal, court rules

"City authorities can now stop Euro 6 diesel vehicles from entering their cities. The European court of justice has overruled a decision by the European commission to allow new diesel vehicles to emit higher levels of nitrogen dioxide.

The justices said the original limit of 80mg/km must be maintained and that a 2016 relaxation of car emission limits was illegal.

The three cities took the European commission to court over its proposal to allow a 168mg/km limit following pressure from national governments. EU law had previously set a 80mg/km limit."

Was the higher limit ever actually introduced for Euro 6?? Either way, if I'm reading this correctly, then the proposal is only to ban those Euro 6 cars that emit above the original limit of 80mg/km - I think all E6 compliant T6s are well below this???

Think the full transcript said any Eu6 vehicle registered before Sept 18 could be banned

OK - think I understand a bit more now; Factory emission vs real world driving - Euro 6 standard has not changed and remained at 80mg/km - it's the way the emissions are now measured that has changed to better reflect real world driving - the 168mg/km was to allow vehicles that were below the 80mg/km in factory conditions to still be complaint with the new way of measuring. Not sure if this will lead to a blanket ban (in those cities that take up) on those registered before Sept 18 or not though, i.e. if new T6s with the same engines that have been used for the last couple of years can meet the standard then surely it's only going to be a software tweak to get the older ones compliant (if not already)??

Do you know your Euro 6 from your 6c and 6d-TEMP?

let the world burn, let these politicians pass their idiotic rules/laws... the sooner the collapse the better (the sooner we can rebuild)

the high street is already suffering from competition from online, expensive parking, crazy speed limitations (20mph), too expensive rents

once companies in these large cities start to close at a rapid rate because they can't get the goods in, or bring the equipment they need to the job place, that will be interesting lol

i'll be watching the smoke rising and the orange glow at night from the hills of Dorset.

happy xmas everybody :)

I nearly included a similar rant in my response but you have said it so much better than I would have done :)
