The Clayton power units look mint ,rather than a full electric fit out the unit does the lot . I was looking at the Transporter HQ YouTube last night ,If I hadn’t already fitted my Electronics I would be tempted

I watched that too, as I’ve not done my electrics yet, but they are quite expensive I think, and it’s still a lump to store away somewhere in the van. For most campers you would still need to run cables for lighting and any power sockets etc, so still Labour is involved. I’ve decided to go down the Lithium passenger seat base battery route, going to have a good look around at Busfest for inspiration.

I've discovered them recently and think they're an excellent all in one design, admittedly at a price, but you get a lot of functionality in a small space.

Where I've seen them cropping up is in some of the EV conversions and they clearly have a track record of providing power in service type vans.

Thats what I have fitted , my battery and charger is under the drivers seat.
I like the simple instalation of the Clayton ,however i would need a removable system as I use the van as a van

I'm surprised that someone like Ecoflow/Jackery etc haven't spotted this gap in the market and created some sort of dock so that you can have something wired in to your van so the system is integrated when it needs to be, but you can undock and take it with you when it needs to be.

I have Clayton installed. Dead easy to fit, but like has been said you still need a 12v circuit for whatever you want and a 240v circuit for sockets.

Easy to remove though, and i like the fact everything is all in one unit.

Yep that would be ace

I've just started a conversion and am planning on using the Clayton, mainly because it seems to do what I need and is still slightly cheaper than a full victron system, without the hassle of interdevice cabling.
That is true, but I feel that a well designed system has some benefit over the Clayton;
Despite the volumetric size of the Clayton being impressively compact, a "full system" is easier to hide in nooks and crannies of a relatively small van such as a Transporter.
"Losing" the Clayton looks to require a fair amount of room-presumably under a rear bench? To me this seems to limit the utilisation of space when compared to installation of kit under the front seat bases, which prevents the loss of space in the rear of the vehicle.
Also, on a "full system" there is also some contingency in the event of a failed component. I'd be slightly worried that use of the Clayton puts all of your eggs in one basket.

Hey Guys,

Speaking of these units they are a great little bit of kit, yes they are a bit awkward to fit into a T6 however very much so manageable as it’s something I did. However when the warranty expires and a component goes it has been virtually impossible to find a retailer or dealer that will even have a look at it. I’ve given the pack to multiple electricians to have a look and have full tests done with results. The problem is it seems to be a sensor that has gone and preventing the device to hold its charge past a certain voltage. If anyone would love to try and solve or any guidance on this puzzle of a battery setup I’d be extremely greatful as it’s a lot of kit and my whole set up was resolved around it. I can’t bring myself to buy another after this so hopefully some amazing genius on here will have a look and manage to salvage it for me

i can take a look at it if you can get it to me. . .

( the normal issue I've seen with these is PPL let them go too flat, so the BMS blocks any charge - the install guide clearly states to charge them every month or so, and not to let them run flat)

another option - buy mine.

.

I'm just about to buy a van with one of these in (Version 1, 100Ah).
Has anyone taken one of these apart? Is it possible to put a larger capacity battery inside it? Or to replace the battery when it dies?

We have out one in our T6.1 under the bench seat. A lot of our customers have done the same. They can fit in the kitchen storage areas in the front or rear too.
You can see the 12 Fuse box, Diesel Heater fuse, and inline 12 output fuse but other than that it's a clean/neat installation.

Thanks, I was wondering whether they would fit in the cupboards. That would be much more useful.
I just got the van yesterday, and overnight the Clayton unit has lost about 25% of power holding. It's not that old, and I can't figure out where it's draining it - no lights or fridge on, can't see any other 12v source capable of doing it. Main car battery is also pretty much brand new. Is this normal? Any ideas where the drain might be? Any suggestions welcome!

Are you leaving the 240V switched on? If so that will consume power itself for the provision and cooling fans in the unit.

If not it is something else

No, the 230v is off.
Interestingly, the unit has now switched itself off so whatever was draining the 12v has now stopped. Still none the wiser as to what it was (is) though.
