Confusion

Tyres, wheels, widths, offsets, lowering - the more i read the more confusing it all is!

Anyway, I've just been to test drive my impending delivery and I notice the wheels supplied look like they're sat too far under the van.

Now, I've read some comments saying wheel spacers are a bit of risk (how true is this?), and that the effect of pushing the outer face of the whee towards the outer edge of the wheel arch can be achieved by getting the right offset.

Could someone with more knowledge than me, or with better forum search skills, shed some light?

Thanks.

Pretty straight forward.

If you want your existing wheels to sit further out then you need to fit a spacer, let's say 25mm. ( 1 inch ).

If you want the same width wheel to still poke out an extra 25mm, then the new wheel will need an offset 25mm LESS.

Now if you increase the width of a new wheel by say 50mm, ( 2 inches), then you can keep your original offset as the new wheel will poke out the extra 25mm by definition of its increased width. ( will also sit 25mm closer to the suspension strut.

If you want to go more than 25mm then as well as the 50mm increase in rim width you will need to DECREASE the offset. Decreasing the offset pushes the wheel OUT.

Yeah ?.

Its massively person preference, but I wanted to go half way between the original, ' tucked in ' look that VW choose for the van, and the, ' flush with the outside of the arch ', look that others like.

My new rims are 9.5" wide with a 48mm offset. The originals were 6.5" wide with a 51mm offset.
So the new rims ' poke' out roughly
30mm more than the originals. ( not exactly 30mm but can't be bothered to do the imperial conversion ).

I've got a chance of some new 18" amarok alloys with 255/60/18V XL tyres fitted, would these fit ok, I have 30mm sportline springs fitted ? Thanks

VW fit 235/50 to 18" wheels. I think 255/60 might be a bit big.
Not sure what the Amorok wheel offset is.

Thanks @.50 I just wanted to confirm it as the guy said hed tried them on his T5 and he wasn't happy with the fit !!

I'm pretty sure that Amarok rims are the same fitment so will go on a T6 - I've seen some 19" Amarok wheels on a T6.
The problem is with tyre sizes which are different between Amarok and T6.

Thanks @Chopman , yes its the tyres that are the issue I think, so not worth me buying the wheels to have to replace all the tyres at further expense and be stuck with the old ones, It looks like the seller has the same issue so hence moving them on.

It sounds like he cant be bothered to get them removed @Chopman , I just fancied trying some 18s and I liked them as the style is very similar to my Devonports. I think I will leave it as im not in a rush.

Pretty sure there's some amarok wheels for sale in the forum which have been fitted to a T6 so the pcd should all be fine.

I think the tire size you need are 275/40R19
