Consumer unit

I’m just wondering why people feel it necessary to fit a domestic consumer unit to their van. As far as I know all EHUs are fitted with RCDs and and, I’m thinking most people would not worry at all about using an extension lead from their house on the van - so if you have RCD protection and you have additional fuses for your separate circuits (only lights and sockets) why bother with the expense and inconvenient bulk of a CU. I’m happy to be enlightened.

Depends if you are happy to trust the campsite has fitted the EHU protection correctly.
Some campsites we have used looked decidedly dodgy, and we were glad of the extra van protection we had fitted.

Pete is spot on, when you go to a camping municipal in France/Spain and see some of the hook ups.

I had to repair a EHU unit on one Spanish campsite just to get some power.
We didn't leave the van plugged in much on that one !

Ps that is not my hookup but it did go to a MoHo!

Hmm! Point taken I think I might invest in an inline RCD before venturing further afield than UK!
