Coolant level following a Service

I questioned the VW dealership when mine came back from servicing fill right up. They said that is how much they always fill the expansion tank.

I suspect if it is too much some will just go out the overflow.

I did however drain some out to get the level to the "correct" full mark on the reservoir anyway, and kept it in case I need to top it up later.

Mine come back from new glow plugs (intercooler off) at this level. Is it ok to leave?
Part of the bleeding process with ODIS after opening the cooling system is to fill the coolant res up to the seam, to allow for drops in the level due to air locks.
So there is no issue at all.

The new passenger vehicle VWs come from the factory with the level higher than the max level to allow for the same.

6 years old now - what relevance that is to the level at new I don't know. It doesn't matter if it is now 100 years old, the level at new will still be the same.

If you read my last comment, you’d see I said it’s part of the process that seems to have changed in the last couple of years.

So where your 6 year old van was at the max line, a newer van would be slightly higher in the coolant res.

Don’t understand the hostility to be honest.

If you read your post you will see that you refer to passenger vehicles not vans, I was just stating what level my van was at when new.

"The new passenger vehicle VWs come from the factory with the level higher than the max level to allow for the same."

Yeah, I see you’d noted your level at new on the first page too.

Reads as if you wanted to correct what I’d said. So if that wasn’t the case, I apologise for it reading that way.
