Coolant Temperature Sensor Not Getting To 90

I've owned a couple of VW's and Audi's and they all got up to 90 degrees temperature and stay at that for the duration of journeys. On my 2019 T6.1 Kombi it never gets to 90 degrees but seems to fluctuate below it and takes a long time to get up even near 90 - usually staying at 70 degrees unless I accelerate hard. The oil temperature sensor on the MFD is staying between 75 and 86 most of the time while the coolant. Is this normal or a sensor issue perhaps?

Sounds like there might be a thermostat issue.

I'd get it checked out sooner than later as it can have an affect on rgenens

Yeah, your thermostats gone. If it’s not had a cambelt/water pump yet, then now would be a good time to save labour costs.
Timing belt and water pump done last Wednesday. It was getting to a few degrees below 90 before that was done during a spin so it's back to the mechanic I go.

Ah b@**cks…
Was it done at main dealer? Try it on with the garage? “Ever since you changed water pump it’s not getting up to temperature…”
They might offer a discount?

Yeh at main dealer. It wouldn't be untrue as it was getting closer to the 90 degrees in a faster time & staying at that temperature before they did the work. Now it's not doing the same as before.

Unfortunately the temperature sensor had to be replaced. They tried multiple coolant flushes & that didn't work so €870+ euro later & that issue is fixed although I may go back to them again with it because now when idling the temperature is fluctuating. Previously before sensor replaced it was fluctuating while driving along. Fluctuating when idling may be normal behaviour but I expected once it reaches 90 degrees (midway on the dial) it would stay at 90.

Thank you. Ever since I got my T6, new in 2017, in winter conditions, coolant temperature has been "odd". Leave it idling or drive around in urban (<30mph) driving and it never achieves 90C operating temperature. Drive it at 60mph, certainly 70mph and it will get to 90C and hold it. If, before it hits 90C, I slow down, the temperature will fall back down again. Doesn't matter what you do with the HVAC system. If ambient temps are low, it just does not warm up properly. During the summer, no problem at all. Thermostat has now been replaced, and, I will get the temperature sensor changed too.

I'm not sure if the T6's have a second thermostat that controls the DSG oil cooler. I had one on my Audi (very similar setup to the T6) and when that failed it caused the temperature to take a long time to reach 90 degrees and then would fluctuate down especially in cold weather.

Any previous VW or Audi I've had once it got to 90° it stayed there. Not this T6 though. When it was fluctuating while moving the DPF regens were not happening & separately the EGR pipe got blocked up. So there seemed to be some knock-on effect on DPF & EGR parts. If I ragged it in sport mode it would eventually come up to temperature but drop off sometimes if you slowed or went round corners. Since they replaced the thermostat those DPF regens seem to be happening around 3 times per tank or thereabouts which I think is about correct frequency. Mine is the CXEB from 2019 & not sure if I have one of the updated engines or no. I'm doing journeys above 1.5 hours a few times per week currently.
