CXGB 102PS Engine Life Expectancy

you just got unlucky, the 102 hp (CXGB) engine, from my point of view, is pretty resilient.
I have bough a second-hand van with ~270k miles on it and drove it for another ~20k miles until my injectors failed (original ones from factory) and decided it was more feasible to swap the whole engine.
Thanks for your input. How much did it cost to replace the engine, if you don't mind me asking.

Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you the labour costs because it was done at a friends garage (almost free)
what I can tell you, is that the engine (bought second hand with low mileage) was ~2500 pounds (3000 euro's)

Ok thanks Sanyez.

Update on the failed engine situation.
Today VW told me this...

>>>>>>> We have removed the cylinder head to inspect for damage however we have found no mechanical failures. When carrying out checks to the piston rings we have found cylinder 2 & 3 covered in soot/carbon. On further inspection which you can see in the images attached, there are heavy carbon deposits on the cylinder head which has caused damage to cylinder 2 piston with corresponding marks to the cylinder head. There is also evidence of carbon in the EGR.

From our findings we suspect carbon in engine has caused the failure. Carbon in the engine is down to driving style i.e. short start/stop journeys throughout its life <<<<<<<

108,000 miles on the clock
Full service history. I'd be interested to know your thoughts. Been quoted 5 figures to replace the engine. The worst case scenario has happened!

It would be interesting to know the engine run hours to back that up with an average speed calculation
