Dashcam angle

just had a Road Angle Halo Dashcam fitted today at Halfords.

Took a while as the guy wired it wrong long story - still not sure it is right as don’t think parking mode working (so maybe not taken live feed only ignition side) will check in morning.

The question for today, it is not mounted horizontally but on a bit of an angle - was told that was so it gave better cover for a side swipe on each corner - not convinced but assume they know more than me - anyone else got one and is theirs straight - happy if that is the best angle just looks odd?

Look at the image on the app and see if it looks right. But rule of thumb is that the dash cam mount is fitted straight - matching the horizontal line of the window/top of the cab. Any other install explanation doesn’t make sense.

Thanks czmate 1999

Will be going back tomorrow.

Took 2.5 hours to fit and said all done after 1.5 hours - I said let’s connect to app to test - nothing then they discovered no power 1 hours later said sorted.

Keeps saying install SD card (they fitted that) and not getting any recordings including park video.

Camera definitely at an angle probably 20 degrees off centre.

To top it all as getting dark lent my cob lamp out of van - not got that back :(

Oh my good giddy aunt! I wish I was there for the “Hi, I would like to return this….” conversation!

Just had another go - won’t recognise SD card and won’t let me format it. No power when ignition off off so park mode won’t ever work and wonky - apart from that great job!IMG_7342.png

As soon as i read "fitted by Halfords" you know what is coming. Personally i wouldn't let them fit an air freshener and would get your money back and go somewhere and get it done properly. Bognor Motors not too far away.

Don't know how handy you are but there is lots of support on here that would help with a DIY install.

To be fair to them went back this morning, very helpful and looked straight away - turns out it’s a faulty unit and ordered replacement, also will say they made a good job of the wiring run.

Does not need live power when parked as has a built in battery.

Wiring all done - so will be a straight swap for the replacement unit. Have used Bognor Motors before - they are good :)

Does anyone have park mode and do they have power when ignition switched off?

It says ‘After 15 minutes of inactivity the Halo Go will automatically enter Parking Mode in time-lapse. If the G-Sensor detects an event or movement the Halo Go will resume normal recording.’

When you switch the ignition off the power to the cam is off too so not sure how it will then work in park mode?

Can’t test it until I get the unit back.

Park mode on our cam works without ignition. You need to have the hardwire kit for it .
To check if its working simply turn everything off , keys out and wait til the cam has shut down ...then wave infront of it or give it a nudge and it should start recording again .

Are they gonna fit the new unit on straight? And not BS you when you query it ?

My inner cynic agrees! Have them take the old unit out and give you a receipt for it that makes it clear they’re sorting a replacement unit. Then, ask for the install fee to be refunded as they merrily sent you on your way with a faulty unit resulting in a return trip to diagnose and another trial to re-install. Oh, and what happened the bloomin COB torch?!!

Hi,

Yes they are going to refit.

Great, thanks JumpShip - will give that a go when I get it refitted.

It is hardwired.

Hi JOG,

They had the COB torch and gave it back (it was a late fitting probably last of the day, cold and dark so feel probably a genuine error).

They have removed and ordered a new one along with the SD card and will refit next week.

As the unit was faulty can’t blame them too much (although would have been good if they tested it).

Will see how they get on refitting it, hopefully all goes smooth.

FFS - just went to put my windscreen wipers on nothing and also no water squirt - I’m thinking they have messed something up in the electrics!

Any ideas?

So just had fuse box off (one by gear stick) middle row second fuse down is missing - think that is the washer fuse (is that right).

Funny when I got in the van after fitting found a fuse and the guy said - that’s a spare(sure it was blue)!

If it turns out to be the wiper fuse then i'd be going back and talking to the manager about how incompetent his/her monkeys really are and how unsatisfactory this whole experience has been .
Took more than twice as long as expected to run a few wires , fitted on the P1$$ and given BS when queried, operation of installed equipment not carried out proven to be faulty after another inconvenient visit , yet another visit still to be arranged as and when they can actually supply a working unit and then to find out the washers and wipers dont work now cuz the numpty managed to 'f' that up too ......and then BS you again about where the fuse was from.

'Fitted by experts' ?
