Dave Cooper Bike rack on T6

This is my set up with the Honda Grom. Dave Cooper bike rack on Tow-Trust tow bar with 120kg nose weight.
The Grom weighs 104kg and the rack around 10kg so I estimate I am safe. More than that I've spent 5k miles touring Spain and Portugal with no issues.

Hi Crispyduck - its been a while since your post but I have just got the same set up as you but with the Bak Rak swan neck tow ball converter - I was wondering if you still had the same set up now or at least how you got on with it longer term? 2 issues I can see to start - 1 ) lifting on is not easy and 2 person job really 2) there is a fair amount of flex / movement in the bike and rack when mounted ( appreciating some of this is coming through the tow ball mounting ) Id appreciate any comments you have from longer term use

Hi Trustytriumph still have same set up but not used for a year. It is a bit of a faff to get the bike on the rack alone...........you really need another person to steady the bike as you're lifting it on. I get my my wife just to stand by the bike to prevent it tipping over whilst I first lift on the the front wheel (this is where you need someone) then move to the back using both hands under the swing arm and lift on the rear wheel, then strap it down. I guess it does flex a bit but I've got the flange tow bar set up so there are 2 bolts holding the bracket instead of it 'sitting' on the tow ball itself. My set up doesn't involve the tow ball.
There has been a question of exceeding the weight limit but my Tow Trust has a nose weight 120kg..........just enough for the Grom. it's never been a problem and I've covered a lot of miles with this set up, I'd probably not fill the tank when carrying the bike..........

Thanks Crispyduck - exactly my experience - my wife also steadied the bike while I lifted front then back. I was lifting from the back rack which wasnt giving me as much height to start with which didnt help so Ill try from the swinging arm next time. It seems to me that there is a collection of 'movements' adding up across the BakRak adapter and the rack itself which gives the flex. I have a westfalia detachable towbar so I think next stop is to look for a westfalia detachable flange type so I dont have to use the BakRak adapter - that should at least take some of the movement out. Thanks for reporting use with experience I have a couple of long trips in mind and its good to hear you have done this with no issues. I have also spoken to a friend about making a specific ramp and joining plate to go between the 2 wheel holders so I can hopefully load it myself ( or at least without lifting! ).
