Diesel smell in cab and hissing sound when idle.

Hi

I’ve started noticing a diesel smell in the cab on my VW T6 SWB 2016 along with a slight hissing sound coming from the engine. I notice the smell more when idle or in low gear.

Having looked on here I have a strong suspicion it’s something to do with the EGR value/ flexi hose. I took a look this morning and although couldn’t see anything on the flexi part notice loads of soot build up on the right hand side fixing. (I’m not 100% sure what I’m looking at if I’m honest!)

Before I send it to local garage, could any of your kind souls just take a look at the photos for me and let me know you’re thoughts- the fixing where the soot is built up is in the yellow circle. (and am I even looking at the right bit lol)

Looking at the access its a pig of a job! I have the 204 engine so access isn't so easy Took me a whole day to do. Still not sure the bolts are quite tight enough but seems to be ok. My hands took a right beating. There’s something back there a bit lower down too that looked like the oil...

Nope, you're looking at the front pipe, it's the rear pipe hidden away at the back of the engine that's normally the culprit.

Thanks thought it wasn’t the right one. I’ll take another look. Should that front one be covered in that much soot?

And sure enough I can feel the air coming out of the back one!
