I've seen mention that there's one company on here that can mod them. The thing is @VanDamMan it's not a case of adapting the vehicle to a different stereo, it's physically and electronically modding the stereo unit itself, which will not be without cost. To be fair to VW, the stated purpose is to cut down on the absolutely rampant theft of VW headunits (because they're common across so many different marques and vehicles, and easily removed) by making them useless when removed. Can't see how VW would have any ulterior reasons for doing this, what would they have to gain?

Morning all
On most new T6s like 17 or newer the Disco units CAN NOT be swapped about, I have all the programme tools here with us and we have spent hours on this topic, with out any doubt even with access to the Main VW server in GMBH unless the unit is new it can not be done on newer vans.
VW got wise to the RNS510, in my mind a way better unit and has clamped down on what can and cant be done to these units.
you even need the latest VCDS lead now to read 2019 OBD ports so its all changing and now with the T6.1 out at the end of the year ( I have seen it in Germany at the launch) these are even harder to access.
So if you have a newer T6 and want Sat nav or Apply play, best paly is safe and by a Alpine head unit.

Final nail in the coffin....VW CV UK have replied to my inquiry and I’m sad to say the unit is no longer for sale
As we have all read the units are paired to the original vehicle at manufacture and as VW don’t own all of its network some dealers are reluctant to get involved ,but as some of you guys have said you need to have a skill level to enable you to do it your self ( fit it to another vehicle) but if some wants a project and wants a very cheap unit let me know

The unit was taken out by Boundry car care St. Helens and has not been powered up at all ( as is removed from vehicle)
Never had voice control or app connect added same reason I never had CarPlay added the cost that VW want is silly . The prices above are factory fit options only you end up paying a lot more as a retro fit option
