Driver side sliding door

Hi all! first post!

But anyhow I've been looking for a van to convert as here in Ireland the converted ones are so expensive... so I found a nice SWB 2018 DSG but, but... it's only sliding door is on the drivers side. The guys who I'm planning to get the conversion said it's not really a problem. They can put all the gear on the nearside so it'll be like it's a LHD inside. Only thing he said was a swivel passenger seat might not be possible (although the van is a two seater in the front).

Just wondering on opinions on this...Thanks!

Most Californias have the sliding door on the “wrong” (drivers) side! Isn’t an issue!

I’d give some thought to what you actually want installed when you’re converting. Do you really want a kitchen inside the van when most folk end up cooking outside anyway.

ha ha yes I've read about the cooking thing, I'll be boiling the Bialetti that's about all! The only problem is here in Ireland one of the requirements the revenue require to re-register the vehicle as a camper is 'cooking facilities' and that would mean something fixed in as opposed to camping stove in a drawer etc.

But thanks! that's reassuring info...

Shouldn't pose any issues having both front seats swivel. We have a SWB with kitchen, the furthest forward kitchen cabinet is slightly shorter & curved to allow the seat in front to swivel. Mostly irrelevant which side the sliding door is on. I use my van in winter a lot so the inside cooking option is essential. Also essential if it’s lashing it down outside!

Just to conclude on my initial post, I went for a test drive in the van and then appointed a mechanic to do a pre purchase check and he showed me the results that the transmission had reported 221000km while the odometer said 102000km! Plus the seller had said the flywheel had been recently replaced but in my mechanics opinion he couldn't see evidence around the bolts etc that the case for the flywheel had been removed.

Back to square one!
