Driver's door won't open from either side.

Hi all,
Yesterday I did the floppy handle fix on my outer driver's door handle.
All good except the new limited travel (spec) meant the cable wasn't being pulled far enough to actuate the mech.
So I pulled the slack and re-attached - all good. A little tight pulling on the handle but it worked fine.

Today it won't open from the outside or the inside.
Obvs v tricky removing the door card with the door closed and of course, I'll end up breaking the tabs at the bottom which are inaccessible when it's closed.

Has anyone experienced this?
The lock goes up and down as it should.

Thanks in advance

After a random pull on the handle as I went by, 'just in case', it opened, so I quickly pulled the card off while I could.
The mechanism is tired so I'll simply replace it.

Hi

Is there a special procedure for tensioning the exterior handle cable on a T6.1? I slotted the cable it into the handle and all seemed fine. I then took the handle back off and pulled the cable with my fingers and it opened to door.

Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at this video. It is a T5 but it was the same for my T6 and I suspect is also the same for T6.1.
Just a bit fiddly to do, but easy enough.

I did have to replace the mech on one side. But that was more to with (obvs) the mech, rather than the "tensioning" you're referring to.
It's not the cable, but a separate sprung thingy that pulls it back into place.

Thanks, just tried and the handle clips into the bracket as per the video, but still will not release the locking latch on the mech. It's as if the cable is too short.

How does the mechanism feel if you try and move it manually?

There isn't a lot of mechanical advantage on Bowden cables generally so any binding or sloppyness elsewhere can give issues.

Does it open from the inside?
It sounds similar to the problem I had.
New mech wasn't expensive, maybe £25 off ebay. It comes with a new cable for the outside handle, and you keep the inside cable, attaching that cable to the new mech.

2 turn-buckles underneath door-card then pull outwards at the bottom then up when the clips around door card have popped. Half of them will break. Then release inside door handle cable from the card and find the electrics that need unplugging.

You can drive around without the door card (as I did) if you're short on time.

It a strange one as works from the inside, mech feels fine, and when the cable is detached from the handle and you pull it with your fingers it works fine. It's a brand new cable as well

If it's a new cable then perhaps it is just as you described -- too short.
But that leaves me wondering why it can still attach to the door handle.

If it needs a lot of travel to operate - more than the handle can give it - I'd be blaming the mech.
