I do have the under tray fitted which helps a lot with spray etc (also works to reduce road noise as well as an added bonus) but yes, good point. They‘re definitely not IP rated. I used that particular connector type as it incorporates a spade connector so if I’d had to change the pick up point I could just pull the spade out and refit to another connector. Although they do the job I’m not a big fan of this type of connector especially on small diameter cable as they can cut through the wire strands. If everything works out ok I’ll remove them and solder/heat shrink as I have done with other connections in the circuit.I’m fairly sure wire taps don’t have any IP rating and the engine compartment is exposed to salt spray in the winter.
You could end up with a corroded conductors on the headlamp circuit and all the grief that comes with it.
Oh boy you've addicted nowThought I’d try the back as well, too much??
Ha ha great minds. I was going to put mine above the number plate as it’s very well hidden as I did a test with an off cut and have it on all the time.Thought I’d try the back as well, too much??
Oh no.... I thought I was done!Thought I’d try the back as well, too much??
Same process as the front using a relay. I came across the same problem with the voltage - using any 12v+ that comes through any control module, once the ignition is on the voltage drops and won’t power the light strip (or maybe more specifically the drivers to fire the lighting sequence?). I tried the 12v+ on the rear lighting and also the rear internal courtesy light, both worked fine until the van was started with the voltage dropping slightly below 11v. I can’t explain why this is happening so any feedback from anybody else testing at these points would be useful just in case I’ve got a potential fault developing. In the end I’ve picked up a 12v+ from the LB circuit in the rear of the van which switches through the relay.Oh no.... I thought I was done!
How did you wite that in?
Too much? Hell no!Thought I’d try the back as well, too much??
Are your rear red reflectors also lights? I have a set that I've been meaning to install but haven't got around to itThought I’d try the back as well, too much??
No, standard reflectors, it’s just the way they’re showing in the video for some reason. Are your rear red reflectors also lights? I have a set that I've been meaning to install but haven't got around to it
Not good! But not really unexpected either. If mine fail that quick I think I’ll just take em off!So less than a couple of weeks of having been installed my front has already failed along the OS half. Cannot see any water ingress or any issues. I guess a good job I bought a couple ha ha
That’s always the concern with this type of item. I have also replaced my rear reflectors with LED ones, but one always seems to fail after about a year. I would happily pay more for a quality item, but even a higher price does not guarantee that and I’ve only ever found them on fleabay. So less than a couple of weeks of having been installed my front has already failed along the OS half. Hopefully these lights strips do not fall into that category, and yours will prove to be a rare failure.
Have you changed the reflectors to the led lights ? I have a set that I've been meaning to install but never got around to it. Was it easy enough to remove the reflector and wire in the led lights? That’s always the concern with this type of item. I piggy-backed off the existing rear light wiring harness into waterproof connectors (which makes changing them a bit easier). Getting the reflectors off and fitting the LED ones was just about possible without removing anything (though bending the heat shield on the right was necessary).Have you changed the reflectors to the led lights ? Hi LozThe B engine fuse box is next to the battery/washer bottle.
