DSG 7 speed lost gears 3 and 5. T6 204bhp 2016

The gearbox has gone into limp mode.
The display where the selected mode or gear is alternating between the gear
(e.g. D4) and a white solid spanner.
Moving away from rest it is jumping from D2 to D4.
I'm not sure about gears 1 and 7. I stopped driving it, no more tests yet.

Please can someone tell me what is the problem?
I would like to drive it 15 miles to my repairer, using manual gear selections to lock it into 2 or 4.
Is it OK to do that or should I get it recovered?
Would resetting/clearing the fault codes using VCDS give me back gear 3 and 5.
Please let me know what you think?
Regards Derek

The good thing you have done is to at least get the problem scanned so fair play to you.

As you know these dsg boxes are quite technical and expensive to repair or worst case replace.
For peace of mind, you may have to go down the specialist dsg gearbox repair local to you and pony up for a recover truck to get the van there. If anything so that you don't have a major breakdown on route and cause more damage.
It's an hard call only you can make, but I would more than likely go this route.

Hope the problem is something trivial for you Derek

I can’t help with the issue but I’d suggest a recovery or tow to your friendly repair shop

Have you upgraded your VCDS cable after April-2024 as here In-use Performance Tracking. What is this?

Would have been interested to see what the DSG thinks about it's health - compare your data with mine.
Unfortunately only newer generation VCDS HEX-V2 and HEX-NET cables can do this.

Could you please record a couple of DSG blockmap files - DSG at (P)

  1. DSG blockmap data - ignition ON, engine OFF
  2. DSG blockmap data - engine running at idle
  3. DSG blockmap data - engine running at idle, brake pedal depressed

How-to:

VCDS > Applications > Controller Channel Map >

For "Single controller address" - 02

1726335099950.png

Tick/fill boxes as above and click Go.
VCDS flashes screens for a moment (when finished hit "Done, Go Back") and there will be files blockmap-02-... in folder C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs\....

Note: only VCDS HEX-V2 and VCDS HEX-NET cables have the capability to create blockmap files.

With older cable I would check the following

VCDS > Select > 02-Auto Trans > Adv. Meas. Values

IDE00872-ENG102188 Current of main pressure valve-Oil Pressure Actual Current
IDE02726-ENG100799 E-Pump: power supply-Voltage Supply Electric Motor
IDE02742 Oil pressure actual value
IDE05988-ENG110505 Pressure of clutch 2: actual value-Clutch_2_actual_value
IDE05989-ENG110503 Pressure of clutch 1: actual value-Clutch_1_actual_value
[EDIT]
The above
  1. ignition ON, engine OFF
  2. engine running at idle

Hi Thanks for that
I've attached a screenshot of those items while in D, It was pulling jerkedly, but the figures remained constant.
With R selected the figures were much the same, though clutch 1 and 2 were reversed.
