DSG issue

I have had this issue for some time and it is now getting worse. 2016 2.0 T6 DSG (7speed). while driving the gearbox drops out of gear and the gear flashes on the MFD. flick to manual and back again and generally this cures the problem, but orange warning light on the dash for the next few starts until it clears. I have taken it to a gearbox specialist who has found no fault with the gearbox but the error seems to be coming from the instrument cluster. "vw transporter no faults in transmission only fault in the entire vehicle was instrument cluster u112100 data bus message missing"

And the following is from the diagnostic report (attached):

U010300 Passive/Sporadic Lost communication with gear shift module
P091400 Passive/Sporadic Gear shift position circuit
P173400 Passive/Sporadic Starter release from the selector lever sensor system

If anyone has some pointers that would be appreciated as this isn't something they repair. I have been advised to see an auto technician, but is it likely that i need to send the cluster away for a repair?

many thanks in advance!

Ady

Hmm....

So lost coms and shift position codes.?

Might be worth looking for a local vw indy to get a VCDS scan.

Or even drop it into VW and pay the diagnostic fee.

When was the DSG box last serviced?

Possible issues:

Wires to DSG, powers and data.

Mechtronic unit in DSG.

...

Normally the first thing is to have a DSG box service with new oil and box DSG box relearn.

Keep us posted.

They all sound like the position of the gearstick is becoming 'lost', a full VCDS scan would tell you more, for example are other faults being logged at the same/similar times unrelated to the gearbox, which could give a better clue as to the possible cause. (tired battery for example which can cause voltage spikes and as a result momentary loss of comms between modules whilst 'smart' charging is regulating battery level). Assuming nothing else is showing I think your down to either wiring (has a rodent been living/eating through wires?) or the shifter itself is becoming faulty.

I've recently been debugging a DSG issue on my daily driver golf (completely different symptoms to yours), so become quite familiar with their inner workings, I've just had my Mechatronics in bits and resolved my issue (hurrah, saved a massive bill, should I have taken it to the stealers), so hopefully yours is an easier fix! :)

Hi All. So I did manage to get the issue resolved. Having had no luck at the gearbox company and then no interest from my local garage, i spoke to a friend who told me to try another garage.

This was their finding. The fault was in the gear selector control. They advised that they would first clean the microswitches which were the likely cause of the problem. if this doesn't resolve the issue then the board would need to be replaced (£600 plus labour approx). However, the cleaning resolved the problem and i haven't had an issue for the last 11 months. I just cost me an hours labour. I left it with them for a few days so they could test it out.

The garage that sorted it for me was GT Motor Services in Christchurch Dorset Contact

I hope that is helpful. attached is a copy of the invoice for info.

Fabulous thanks for the update.
I’m in North Yorkshire so Dorset is a bit of a trek however I will share this information with a local VW Indy and hope to get sorted.

Hi Ady,
Im having exactly the same issue.

Do you know where the gear selector control unit is located? Is it inside the cabin right under the gearbox lever?

I am not sure, but believe it is the gearstick and module that is part of it. Not sure if it helps you.

I have still not had the fault reoccur.
