Can anyone shine light on my DSG issue. I recently noticed when I put the DSG in "Park" the van will roll like its in neutral. Luckily i was in the van and grabbed the handbrake before it rolled off my drive. Also, when I select "Park" the brake light on the dash comes on (I think this is an electronic break?).

Interestingly the van was in the dealers a few weeks back to replace the DSG gear selector, I'm not sure if this is related and they could have left something disconnected ??

The van is booked back in with the dealers but I'd like to know how the DSG park brake function works beforehand

TIA Adam.

Same age as you mine works as I would expect. Put it in PARK and it parks. No need for handbrake although it does roll a very miniscule amount.

Sounds like the replacement selector wasn't adjusted properly, ie the selector is in park, but the gearbox isn't.
Knowing the appalling standard of work VW did to my van when it went in for accident damage and the Belden cables recall, this would be expected.

I think its worth pointing out there is no 'DSG park brake'

The only brakes your van has are the foot brake and the handbrake, when you put the DSG selector into park it locks the gearbox and doesnt allow it to turn, this does effectively act like a brake but all the rolling force is then applied to the gearbox and this tension cant be released in a nice way other than pulling the lever back

I always stop and apply brakes before selecting P to stop this tension transferring to the gearbox

I don't normally use DSG Park as a brake. But in a rush I left something on my drive, put the DSG in Park, jumped out leaving the engine running, & not engaging the handbrake, it started rolling.

The main reason I'm asking the question is I want to understand if the dealership may have left something disconnected or setup incorrectly after replacing the DSG selector mechanism - carried out 4 weeks ago. Basically I haven't go a clue how the DSG works and the dealership could tell me anything and charge me accordingly.

Any info would be appreciated.
