I wanted to share my positive experience with Fred from Autotech Tuning in Weston super-Mare. After assisting my neighbor with his car issue, I discovered Fred's association with Dav-Tec on this forum, known for customizing and developing vehicle maps.
As fellow VW enthusiasts, Fred offered to data log my vans performance.
I expressed my concerns about the gear change behavior at low RPMs, suspecting it might be causing strain on the flywheel.
Having researched the TVS DSG software, I mentioned my preference for improved drivability and a more balanced sport mode.
Fred made the necessary adjustments to one of his maps, and we tested the changes together as well as data logging.
The gear change ratios were noticeably better, with shifts occurring at more appropriate speeds/RPM. The sport mode felt refined, providing smoother downshifts around town while still offering fast kick down and performance when needed.
Fred has customised gearbox tunes across various performance vehicles, including the Golf R and Transporters. While his product rivals top brands, his tailored approach offers both quality and affordability and can be bespoke to your vehicle not just a generic map.
Here’s a couple of photos of before and after….As you can see the gearbox holds on to the appropriate gear for the the RPM range now. 7th gear doesn’t come in till about 57mph.
