Easy way to change front Shocks

Can I put spring compressors on front suspension, before starting, to simplify the removal of the front suspension unit.
It seems a lot of effort to move hub assembly out of the way

You can certainly put them on- there are many different types on the market, but if they ping off - watch out . As has been pointed out we have a pneumatic caged spring compressor/ safety first!

I have first hand experience of a friend who did it on the roadside on a T5 - the spring compressor doodah failed, the spring smashed into his forehead on its way past him (hospitalising him for a fortnight) before ending up several houses down on someone's front lawn.

Up to you, but having seen his face permanently disfigured in an attempt to take an 'easier' route I won't be recommending his method or trying it myself any time soon....

I'm at the point in life where I'd just pay someone to do it. The time saved is worth far more than the money, which wouldn't be all that great anyway for a job such as this, say two hours labour plus VAT for both sides, maybe a bit less.

The problem is the earliest date so far is 4 weeks away and we want to go away in the van.
I have contacted 6 garages so far. Cheapest is 770 dearest 880

Do those prices include parts or is that just labour? I'm not a million miles from Devon and could get you in the week after next. Send me a message if you want to discuss further. If the prices are labour only then they are absolutely bonkers. Even if they include lowering springs they are still very high!

Assuming it isnt a T32 , its easier and probably safer to remove entire strut - hub assembly, a bit more work but safer and easier !

The quotes you have had were from people wearing Masks I guess ??

Thanks for reply6. It is a T32. So what is the difference?

Probably also keeping three metres apart and working from home

I guess using heavy cable ties to tie them to the springs might help?

Much quicker to do a t32 , undo the Camber bracket bolts leave the hub in the car , just remove the shock spring assembly .

Top tip support the weight of the disc, calliper and hub as it will pull the drive shaft out if left to fall . whole world of pain to get drive shaft back in if you dont have the knack.

Thanks Chris for doing a great job at a reasonable price and within a couple of weeks.
I would recommend you to anyone.
Thanks
