Did you buy private or from a dealer? If you bought through a dealer, then you're still within the 6 month period (just) where you're protected by consumer law.

Advertised on dealer website and Auto trader, but said was selling for a friend and transfered money to his friends bank account. Came with service history he owned it for 5 years .

Bugger! I guess that counts as a private sale.

No sure really, talked to Citizens advice bureau and they said becouse he advertised it on his website and Auto trader under his business name, he could be liable. I'm toing and throghing with legal letters under there recommendations, but received a letter today from the dealers solicitors to say he's not liable, but I'll fight it all the way. The hardest thing is proving it had the problem prior to me buying it

When it comes to joe public vs a vehicle trader, the law is usually very much on the side of the consumer. My advice is to speak to a specialist solicitor - in another life, I have experience of CAB giving very poor advice.

For info the newest version of the egr cooler with part number 04L131512CF has a totally different internal design to the original previous number of 04L131512T.

The internal leaks are caused by failure of the soldered pipe connections.

Call HMRC and see what they say, I would be amazed if they were happy for a garage to advertise a vehicle on a traders website but route the money through a “friends” bank account and not account for the tax, I could be wrong but I think they would see this as some kind of business transaction in which case the garage would have some kind of responsibility. LBC have a barrister, Daniel Barnet I think, on their legal hour who gives good advice, worth a call to the station (Friday or Saturday night from memory). I don’t think there would be any comeback on a private sale so I would target the dealer

I’d say you need a solicitor who is well clued up on contract law and law relating to agency as well as consumer rights (although they all probably go hand in hand).
Don’t just go to your local solicitor that’s great at conveyancing and divorce. All solicitors are not equal.

Thank you. Will that stop the coating degradation of the liner getting into my engine bores.
Regards Mark.
The damage is already done according to the oil analysis and compression test report.
If you are going to refurbish the engine the emulator kit will protect it post build otherwise it will be pointless.

If you are going down the legal route don’t tamper with the evidence, the engine will need to be as supplied to you.
