Engine Coolant diverter valve

I have a 22 Vw Transporter with 32k kms on the click. Yesterday engine management light came on. Fault code is P26AB engine coolant diverter valve. I see here on the forum there are a few people with the same problem. Got onto Volkswagen and warranty is out by a week ! Hoping to persuade the garage to do the work as a "good will" gesture but if not ill have to do it myself. Anyone here done one before, any help/advice appreciated
