Evening ladies and gents

well, it had to happen sooner or later! I was driving up a steep hill this morning when I sensed something wasn't right. I looked down and saw the amber heater plug symbol light up. I stopped and switched off the ignition and then re started and it's been fine the rest of the day. I was told by the dealer service department just to keep an eye on it as it may have just been having a moment. I've booked it in as a precaution for the 21st June ..........has anyone any thoughts........how concerned should I be? Fortunately, it's just within the extended warranty!!
Many thanks
Dave

I am driving through France to a Spain Togo skiing. 400 miles a lot if it in cruise control at 75-80mph

the engine management light has come on. Van is running fine and the manual says it is an exhaust issue.

coincidentally the Inspection now warning on startup came on 2 days ago. i don’t think an inspection is due.

am I good to carry on?

@Mick I think there is another thread on here about management lights appearing when using cruise for large distances.
Last time I went to France I had exactly the same issue. I have since stopped using cruise for prolonged periods.
I had Carista with me so just reset the fault and carried on without using cruise. I had no further problems.

There are lots of reasons why the EML May come on, it’s just a general notice that something is not right. You need to put a code reader on there to find out what the trigger is, I always travel with a Carista dongle in the glovebox.

I used to have a Ford which threw the EML every time I drove in France around the 500 mile point, it was always the EGR fouling up after extended periods or an 80mph cruise. I would bet money that you’ve got an EGR insufficient flow code lurking behind that EML. If that’s all it is then it’s fine to drive on, but you really need to find out. Places like Norauto which are everywhere will read the codes for about €80 or so.

Is this the Carista you're talking about?

Thanks. The light shut itself off after another 300 miles and the van is running perfect. But the cruise control stopped working for 2 days then came back on. Faultless 1500 mile return journey but the MPG is down. I'm just checking what Carista I need and I'll get one and try it out.

I may throw some STP DPF cleaner in the fuel for the short term. Unless anyone can recommend a better DPF cleaner.

Yes, that’s it. That buys the dongle, then once you download the app to a smart phone you can use the free 1 month subscription to read the detailed codes to see what’s going on. You will probably find there are some stored codes from what caused the EML to come on.

I bought a Carista showing 6 faults that I need to pay £9.99 to find out what they are. Canbus, Engine and exhaust system. I'll pay up later. Worth it I think. I do not seem to have been offered a free month

So just had a Carista hour! I had these faults and reset them. When I am not a lockdown self isolating w****r from my trip I'll take it for a run!

I suspect some of these were from the Tow bar fit in July.

I saw my soot level at 12.9 somewhere but damned if i can find it again. How do I find it again?

This is the only thing bothering me on the ECU check cos I have no idea what it is telling me. But my adaptive did fail for a couple of days and then come back. Lights are set travel i'll put them back to UK when I next drive it. None of them fault codes are showing.

I believe Carista misleadingly associates the fault codes. Another proposal for decoding the faults here:

Probably the one that eventually needs attention is:
1541 - Sensor for Automatic Distance Regulation; Incorrectly Positioned - C1103 00 [008] - - - [FAULT_MISALIGNMENT_VERTICAL]

03303 - not necessarily a fault

There only some errors under adaptive cruise control. No idea what it all means but she is running great.

Fault codes:
01541 Headlights are being raised
01130 ABS Operation
01132 Front Infrared Sensor (G166)
01131 Control Circuit for Turn Signals (Blinking Light Activation)
01542 Yaw Rate Sensor (G202)
01545 Sensor for PDC Rear Left (G203)
My interpretation of the codes by removing the leading zeros - which I believe are padded by Carista - would be the following:
1130 - Sensor for Automatic Distance Control - C110B F0 [008] - Limited Visibility - [FAULT_SENSOR_NO_FREE_SIGHT]
1131 - Sensor for Automatic Distance Control - C110B F0 [008] - Limited Visibility - [FAULT_SYSTEM_NO_FREE_SIGHT]
1132 - Sensor for Automatic Distance Control -C110B F0 [008] - Limited Visibility - [FAULT_SYSTEM_DISTURBED]
1541 - Sensor for Automatic Distance Regulation; Incorrectly Positioned - C1103 00 [008] - - - [FAULT_MISALIGNMENT_VERTICAL]
1542 - Sensor for Automatic Distance Control - C110B F0 [008] - Limited Visibility - [FAULT_SENSOR_BLIND]
1545 - Sensor for Automatic Distance Control - C110B F0 [008] - Limited Visibility - [FAULT_SYSTEM_BLIND]
Most likely the one that eventually needs attention is:
1541 - Sensor for Automatic Distance Regulation; Incorrectly Positioned
the others are either consequences of the "1541" or separate incidents.

As there is lot more associated data with the fault codes for a proper analysis a full fault code readout is needed, e.g like this data captured in
1542 - Sensor for Automatic Distance Control - C110B F0 [008] - Limited Visibility - [FAULT_SENSOR_BLIND]
Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 4
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 207
Mileage: 60514 km
Date: 2021.11.09
Time: 18:32:35
Control Module temperature: 22 °C
Voltage terminal 15: 14.4 V
Vehicle speed: 14.43 m/s
Acceleration: 1.19 m/s²
You certainly could just clear the faults and see what comes comes back.
