What oil is right for the 150 manual please
Oooh! Can open... Worms... Everywhere!!
Specs for the T6 are an oil spec of ACEA C3 / API SN CF / VW 507.00 for the Diesel engines with DPF (505.01 without) The Petrol version uses 504.00 with flexible service intervals, 502.00 without.
Grade depends on your requirements, 5W30 is the usual for both the Diesel and Petrol. Opie Oils (where we can get 10% off through club discount) offer 0W-30 as an option for the Petrol, but that also meets the specs of the Diesel as well.

I suppose the only saving grace is that you’ve caught that on the magnet, so it’s not circulating.
It appears to be a very fine paste that has hardened up to a gummy texture. I assume it was attracted there because it is magnetic and it has solidified over time.
Clean oil in, will see if it has returned when I next change the oil.

So is 5w 30 OK

That label shows the requirement for the lubricant in the Air Conditioning system (J639)
5W-30 is fine for the T6 if it is also VW 507 00 spec as well (Low SAPS so it doesn't block the DPF)

SAE J639 is refrigerant oil, nothing to do with the engine!
5W 30 is a viscosity, not a specification, you need VW 507.00 specification, and the viscosity will be correct within that specification.

So this well be OK

Yes, see the label under Approvals? VW 504 00/507 00

But you're gonna need another bottle. 7+ litres in a T6

Engine only has 9500 miles on it, last oil change was about 4000 ago, 0W-30 Shell Helix AV-L synthetic, The paper filter is reasonably clean.
That's probably to be expected on a new engine so nothing to worry about. I don't consider them as properly bedded in until about 10K.

That said, and I see there's a load of new responses about oil grade and specification but I'd be running on 5W30 if I was you. 0W30 is mainly used to help the manufacturers achieve Euro emission ratings through reduced internal engine drag - it's a compromise and the trade off is the performance of the oil for keeping your rotating engine components separated, particularly as the oil breaks down through use. If it wasn't for Euro emission ratings we'd be running 5W40 in the UK.

Smith and Allan is a good recommendation and being on my doorstep a company I use a lot. Their own branded oils are actually blended using Shell base stock - some of their fully synthetic oils are actually as supplied by Shell.

The difference between the Shell 0W-30 and 5W-30 viscosities is zero at 100C.(11.9 vs 11.9-12.3)
The 0W is (obviously) slightly less viscous at 40C, but that just means less drag and better economy.
I don't mind running the 0W-30, I can get 3 oil changes for around £150 buying in bulk from Smith & Allan and it is VW 507 00 spec

3 year old van with 4k on would you do an oil change …???
As above, the 'correct' answer is yes. What is more important to understand is how those 4k miles were accumulated over the three years. If you've been doing lots of short trips and lots of DPF regens have been happening, it's a big fat yes. If it sat unused for two years due to COVID but the 4k miles were done on long motorway trips, it's still a yes, but the oil should still be good. The issue you have is at selling time. I wouldn't touch a vehicle that hadn't had an oil change for three years unless I personally knew the vehicle and how it had been used.

Not been used due to covid …Did it …. Toured round the yorkshire dales this week … sweet engine …. Love the dsg … hopefully keeping along time

Just looked on another thread surely the service light will have come on at 2 year and a change will have been done
I was probably being over cautious but best to set a benchmark from ownership

Well that's not what I expected! I changed the oil and filter today, and only got around 5 Litres out, and put 6 Litres in to get it near the high mark on the dipstick.
I thought these took 7.5 Litres?
