Euro 5 - 6 speed vs Euro 6 - 5 speed

Ao
That's why nobody's posting besause we've all switched to DSG

Apart from the ones complaining about how rubbish DSG is; which it is.
Drive an 8 speed ZF auto to see what proper autos are like; leagues ahead of Definitely S**t Gearboxes.

Hesitant to the point of being dangerous, useless at fine control, rubbish at selecting the right gear. Oh and and beyond lazy changing, no advantage; my 8 speed auto is faster, better on fuel and lower on emissions than the manual. DSG is worse on all fronts.

Top Gear keeps complaining about the one in their long term T6.

Dreadful things. I'd rather walk.

Top gear complain? No never, really? not heard them do that before!
They must have made it up then.

My post may be a little OTT but I can't understand why DSG box bores can't resist jumping in on every thread; what's the relevance?
We all have the option of choosing one, many of us CHOOSE not to have one.
I've driven four vehicles with the DSG box; all hateful. Really hateful.
As are DSG bores.

Hmmmmmmmm ok, I'm not a DSG owner, but can see the point of them, the thread WAS quite light hearted... But I suppose I'm one of those "bores", but then I don't care, as you've never met me.. Your opinions are put quite forcefully, so "OTT" I've another for you, but then I'd be banned! Isn't it a shame that we only have what VW decide to give us? And a surprise we buy them?

So there endeth my postings!

I had a 5 speed t5.1 and now have a 6 speed t6.

From a driving point of view on a stock van the 5 speed was better. The gear ratios was much better for its power band.
However once remapped the 5 speed showed it's flaws. It can't handle the torque so it had to be limited. And the diff inside it is very weak. The diff is spot welded and mine failed. Like most 5 speed vags do.

I'm not used to 6 speed gearboxes so I find 6 gears difficult. Below 60mph it stays in 5th gear and it's in the power band and I actually get more economy. Above 60 the 6th gear really comes into its own.

I plan to get my t6 remapped soon so I can really compare 5 to 6 both stock and remapped.

From reliability and future proof point of view for me it's 6 speed all the way.

On a side note. I never liked dsg. I tested it and it sucked absolute balls. Compared to a good manual it's slow and unresponsive and no enjoyment. But easy to use.
Must be an age thing, I need LED's to see at night and DSG to get me from A to B, I also confess to owning a Yeti (trading it in next month). OMG I'm middle aged/grey/approaching 60!

Oh sorry, LAST comment, brought on by YOUR comment @Polzeylad that "we all have the option of choosing one" you obviously did not READ or UNDERSTAND my reference to motability! Some people have NO CHOICE! & they are certainly NOT "bores"!

THATS my final!

No it isn't.
Yes some will need DSG for the reasons you allude to; if you think for one second I'm having a go at that group of people, you really are seriously misguided. But that is not only irrelevant to this discussion, it's also a cheap shot to try and win an argument.

You're a strange chap - you seem angry about everything but with no real focus. Sort of like an out of control machine gun firing shots all over the place rather than a well handled sniper rifle.

You've foxed many of us with your random rants - are you just ranting for the sake of ranting? Good to see your Dad "liking" your posts though....

How about this one do you save your money and go 5 speed then spend it on LEDs head lights .

@Keeff I would stick with the 6-speed box and if you cannot go the extra for LED headlights then I would opt for H7 lights. Remember you use the gearbox every trip and the lights only when it is dark so it is up to you which you value more highly and make your choice accordingly.

The manual gearbox choice comes down to engine power output chosen rather than anything else though.

Newer 911s have a 7 speed manual; that would take a bit of getting used to; I think I could manage the minor adjustment to drive one though!

Just remember they are motability vehicles as well before this gets out of hand please.
I can drive a manual, but it causes me a lot of pain and discomfort after a accident in a Lifeboat about 8 years ago.

I'm with you totally but I'm approaching 30 with haste & discrace!
