Exhaust smell when start

since I had the T6 serviced I can smell exhaust fumes for the first few minutes after I start the engine when cold, is this common?

I had that and gradually it got worse until I could smell it driving along. It was the egr pipe that connects to the turbo had a tiny crack. £160 for a new one (for just the part) Anyway that was my problem.

Hi I had the same issue and as turtlemode says it was the egr pipe. Sinclair vw commercial in Swansea changed it as a goodwill gesture while my van t6 was in for a timing belt and water pump change.

I had this on a previous diesel car , it was a gasket on the down pipe only when cold. When it was warmed up it expanded enough to seal it and no smell.

I had same thing and it was the egr pipe split , had it done and all good now

Same as most of the chaos above, split EGR pipe. I deleted it.

Looking at the access its a pig of a job! I have the 204 engine so access isn't so easy Took me a whole day to do. Still not sure the bolts are quite tight enough but seems to be ok. My hands took a right beating. There’s something back there a bit lower down too that looked like the oil...
