Factory eberspacher parking heater owners, show me your remote!!

Ok, I have a 2018 (2017 model) Caravelle which had the factory optional "auxiliary parking air heater, with remote control" fitted from new.

The previous owner lost the remote and never bothered to replace it so when I bought the van, it didn't have the remote.

I've meant to get a new one for a while, I got a price from VW a while back, at £200+ to supply and fit.

I now have VCDS so I can use that to pair a new remote, but I need to confirm which actual remote version it is!

That's 2 main versions that it could be:

Which seems to go for about £70

Or...
1000007284.png

Which is a lot rarer and goes for double the other one, or £150!!

This is my heater, just the standard eberspacher air heater (and yes, I don't have a engine heater as per every other Caravelle, the parking heater option removed the auxiliary coolant heater).

So, anyone who has a factory fitted parking air heater, with remote... (A damn rare option, I know!), please let me know what your remote looks like to save me an expensive lesson! :p

My manual does show the cheaper, square version but to be honest it could be wrong, knowing VW!

So my 2020 Caravelle with factory air parking heater came supplied with the remote as shown in the first picture.
Interestingly it also has a auxilliary water heater factory fitted .

I bought a second remote of ebay some 3 years or so ago and programmed with VCDS.
I can't remember the process but wasn't too hard.

For a start you are showing Webasto remotes - factory fit air heater are Eberspachers at present. ( as shown on your sticker )
Correct, but that's why it's confusing. The square shape is technically a webasto remote but seems to be the correct version for the eberspacher heater...

o_O:rofl:

It shouldn't have done unless you managed to persuade the factory to fit a Webasto instead of the Eberspacher. If it was it would be interesting to see what model they fitted.

These were the options available in 2017 and 2018

No less than 6 (yes, 6!) auxiliary heater/second battery options!

Mine is the "Programmable parking heater (air) with radio remote control and second battery"

If you also wanted the coolant heater that's a different option: "Programmable parking heater (air) with radio remote control, auxiliary heater (coolant-based) and second battery."

All executive trim Caravelles came with the webasto coolant heater with no control as standard, but some options (see above) strangely deleted it when fitting an air heater. God knows why. I think they simplified things in later years.

This is my label files from the drivers door and a picture of the remote that operates the air heater

That's perfect, thanks! If that's on a 2020 then it'll be the same on my 2018 then. Cheers!

and yes, I don't have a engine heater as per every other Caravelle, the parking heater option removed the auxiliary coolant heater
So this statement intrigued me as I don't think from it's behaviour my 6.1 Caravelle has any form of auxiliary heater, but I went and dug out the build sheet Pauly did for me some time ago and this 9M5 line appears on it:

If I do have it fitted where would it actually be physically located?

Or is this a digital ghost that might not actually exist?

Odder and odder. It would be interesting to see what receiver these remotes are paired with as these remotes only appear online anywhere as Webasto ones.
Has anyone sighted theirs? Receiver could be under the dash or under the seat - or trace back from the antenna.

I have a factory fit eber on my 2018 model. My remote is like the second pic
So the £150 version?

What model van do you have? Kombi, correct? Presumably you don't have the webasto coolant heater, so the same set up as me.

Is it possible that in vans without the webasto it uses the eberspacher fob. And in Caravelles which have both it uses a webasto fob...

From a Caddy forum:

9M5 being a basic preheater to speed up heating of the coolant as the engine runs, 7VE having a timer control, 7VL an additional radio remote.

Check the door stickers, that's generally a solid confirmation of what you've got.

I'll almost guarantee you've got the standard equipment webasto coolant heater with no external control (comes on under 5 degrees when the engine is on).

Physically they're almost impossible to see, you might see the exhaust poking out from behind the engine.

Yes, mine is a Kombi with AUX air heater, I don’t have a coolant heater

Ok thanks - that confuses things ever further...

This is my VCDS scan and the aux heater bits:

ZW6 being the parking heater with remote control.
Actual build sheet would define vehicle configuration down to equipment level (PR codes)

Per wiring diagram T6 air heater can have the following PR codes
1739907322463.png
of which 7VM is defined as "Parking heater with radio remote control"

I would put my money on 7E0 963 511 D (which has superseded revisions B and C)

On it. Thanks! Didn't realise the build sheets gave more info than I already had, that'll be very useful!

Edit my van was registered April 2018 so based on your pics that'd be 7E0 963 511 C - I'm presuming either C or D would be suitable if that's the case?
