Factory eberspacher parking heater owners, show me your remote!!

First @TallPaul_S if this is too much of a diversion yell at me and I'll shuffle my question into it's own thread...

@mmi quoting OBDeleven for PR codes made me go and look at the backup on the phone (not near the van right now) and under control units there is this listed...

Screenshot_20250218-200332.jpg

I'd convinced myself I didn't have any form of heater, yet this is listed in plain sight in the list of control modules and I've never noticed it in 2 years of ownership

The next question I need to research is what exactly is it and how can I make better use of it...

On it. Thanks! Didn't realise the build sheets gave more info than I already had, that'll be very useful!

Edit my van was registered April 2018 so based on your pics that'd be 7E0 963 511 C - I'm presuming either C or D would be suitable if that's the case?
Yes, the van came with C revision but current available one is revision D. So both are suitable (actually even B but it has been out of production more than 7 years).

Hey, any chance of a build sheet for my Caravelle?

VIN: WV2ZZZ7HZJ*******

Cheers!

It'll be the standard fit caravelle executive webasto coolant heater. They all came with one, well, unless the first owner specced an option which removed a standard fit item!

You'll (not) notice that your van warms up nice and fast in cold weather, mine takes about 30 minutes of driving to warm up when it's cold.

Cheers - OK, looking like it is the more expensive version of the remote I need. Despite the owners manual showing the other version...

Well this is the thing, I've noted that it does take longer than expected to warm up, and I know this was a dealer vehicle with some less common equipment combinations on it so I just assumed that the "standard" heater was either a victim of cost cutting on the 6.1 or by the dealer.

Also I had looked for the heater plate and hadn't found it on the B pillar.

So, anyway, as you're all having a good chuckle at my expense tonight I decided to walk up to the van, where I found as expected no sticker on the B pillar:

20250218_203615.jpg

And then I thought a bit and realised every one says on the DOOR so I looked the other way and found these stickers I have never seen in 2 and half years of washing, waxing and detailing this massive lump of vehicle:

20250218_203629.jpg
So now I feel like a complete idiot

Anyhow, any way of getting this thing to run when we are parked...?

There's a load of threads on that subject, and a few different options I think - mainly adding the webasto telestart module and remote control.

Glad you found it, eventually! :D

So, the VW offer isn't too bad - as guaranteed to be correct part because they will get it based on vehicle VIN.
Well, after a bit more searching there's a few more around (mainly from Europe it seems) at around the £60 mark so I'll see if I can get one of them.

£200 is still extracting the urine for a sodding remote though!!

£230 as a genuine new VW part...

Strange - that is coming back as a Webasto T91R Lin-bus remote still, cannot find any mention anywhere that it will operate an Eberspacher. Remotes for the Eberspachers are all the Easy Start offerings.
I will be very surprised if there is some jiggery pokery that permits Webasto remotes to operate Eberspachers and there is no mention of it on t'internet.
Waits in anticipation . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

My guess is that VW replaces Eber ECU software with their custom one like they do with the Webasto to make them integrate with vehicle CAN, controls and diagnostics. This could well modify it also to work with the Telestart, at the end of the day LIN is just a serial bus.

Actual build sheet would define vehicle configuration down to equipment level (PR codes)

Per wiring diagram T6 air heater can have the following PR codes
View attachment 275165
of which 7VM is defined as "Parking heater with radio remote control"
View attachment 275169
Source: OBDeleven > Lookup > Equipment codes

I would put my money on 7E0 963 511 D (which has superseded revisions B and C)
So to confirm, my build sheet does say 7VM.

Thought I'd found a remote on eBay but it looks like although the listing said the seller would send to Europe, it actually means EU. So I may not get it. Apparently the EU and Europe are the same thing...

Odder and odder. It would be interesting to see what receiver these remotes are paired with as these remotes only appear online anywhere as Webasto ones.
Has anyone sighted theirs? Receiver could be under the dash or under the seat - or trace back from the antenna.
T6 wiring diagram:
"Remote control receiver J604 for right-hand drive vehicle (L0R) is behind dash panel, right"
"R11 Aerial, in front left door"

Unfortunately the parts illustration available doesn't have option codes for the receiver. But the first and the second are definitely used for Webasto coolant heater (just different receiver/remote as per build date).

I've got a B revision remote on the way from Germany (via another member on here who's going to bring it back for me), for £60 plus UK postage.

Should have it next week so I'll update if and when I've been able to pair the new remote!

Yeah, it seems like if there's a remote for the webasto unit, and an eberspacher/no eberspacher, it uses the webasto remote control for everything.

If just the eberspacher (no remote webasto/no webasto at all) then it uses a different remote module.

I think.

Putting this in here as it may help someone else!

So for my 2018 model van there's 3 options listed and 2 remotes/control units (these are just the options with remotes, there's other options without remotes but I'm not covering them for obvious reasons!):

7VF & 7VM which are:
7VF - this option provides an auxiliary heater combined with a supplementary air heater. The combination of two heaters enables the vehicle air to be fully heated when parked and supports the engine to heat the vehicle in cold conditions when driving. The supplementary air heater is controlled via either the radio remote control, providing on or off functionality, or via the operating and display unit in the roof which has settings for the switch-on time, the day of the week and the desired temperature. Heat is guided into the vehicle via separate vents in the B-pillars.

7VM Programmable parking heater with radio remote control: this supplementary air heater is able to fully heat the air in the vehicle with the ignition switched off. It is controlled via either the radio remote control, providing on or off functionality, or via the operating and display unit in the roof which has settings for the switch-on time, the day of the week and the desired temperature. Heat is guided into the vehicle via separate vents in the vehicle’s B-pillars.

Then 7VL:
7VL Auxiliary coolant heater with timer and remote control: a water-based supplementary heater operating as an auxiliary heater. It is controlled via either the radio remote control, providing on or off functionality, or via the operating and display unit in the roof with functions for the switch-on time, the day of the week and the desired temperature. Heat is guided into the vehicle via the heating or air conditioning vents. The heat output depends on the coolant temperature – the full heat output is only available when the engine is at operating temperature.

7VF & 7VM both have a remote control air heater aka the Eberspacher D3 Plus - 7VF also has the websato coolant heater, with no remote control option. So the only remote (or any control) is for the air heater.

7VL has the websato coolant heater which has a remote control and can act as a cabin heater via the std heater vents.

Here's the remotes for the 3 options:
1740061856244.png

And the remote modules - ignore the first one in the list, that's for pre-2016 vans, aka T5.1's.
1740062308239.png

The 3rd on this list: 8K0963271 - is for the eberspacher remote only option, and uses this remote control module:

1740061806464.png

The 2nd on the list uses a remote module made by Digades GMBH, which looks to be the manufacturer of the webasto remote system - 3Q0963513 and only works with the 3Q0963511 remote fob (square one).

So my 2020 Caravelle with factory air parking heater came supplied with the remote as shown in the first picture.
Interestingly it also has a auxilliary water heater factory fitted .

I bought a second remote of ebay some 3 years or so ago and programmed with VCDS.
I can't remember the process but wasn't too hard.
So, it also appears that the T6.1 did away with the 7E0963511 style remote completely. That's why it's a bit confusing!

Remotes for 2020 onwards, aka T6.1:

1740063336982.png

3G0963511 or 5H0963511 - both of which are the square version.

I wonder if I can get a key fob remote for my Eberspacher heater (aftermarket fit not VW).
Should be a lot easier than getting the VW remote! You'd just need to check what controller you have - there's probably either a phone app and/or a remote fob option.
