Factory Swivel Front Seats Or Retro-fit

Hi All,

Posting multiple threads to hopefully help others with future searches.

Today I visited an camper conversion company (CMC) and they advised having factory fitted front swivel seats over aftermarket. any thoughts on this?

Remember factory swivels do not have height adjustment, I prefer a higher seat position in my Cali Ocean I feel a little low down. " 5ft 9"

I prefer the standard seats with swivels my self.

Factory swivels for me. An additional £105 and with full TUV approval. Less non factory mods the better and surprisingly cost effective too..

I would go factory passenger swivel.
And keep the drivers with hight adjustment

Yes they can but it would be ridiculously expensive

We were going to have factory swivel seats but could not have electric adjustable lumber support option with the factory swivels. So we opted for the lumber support from factory and RIB swivel bases were fitted as part of the conversion.

Ah ok, would the opposite be possible, retro fitting the heating elements to a non heated OEM swivel seats?

Hi I ordered Factory fitted front swivel seats on my Kombi, they are a good quality seat.

Hi,

So to sum up then

Factory swivels are cost effective and maintain compliance with the necessary safety standards but you lose height adjustment. hmmm, will need to take a looking the show room i think!

The factory swivels I’m my California Never felt low I have them ordered on my new Kombi too .......seems like a no brainier to go factory fitted .

I was going get factory swivels but then noticed loss of height adjustment !
Defiantly needed height adjustment as i swap between wearing foot wear when driving and not !
My partner at time has short legs and adding a swivel increased seat height too much too.

so

In the end i got heated standard seats non swivel but with all the adjustments lumber, height and heated.
Took standard base out passenger side, fitted a Jennings lower base put an RIB swivel plate on put seat back on !
Got best of all worlds !

I have heated and height adjustable front seats, can I not just retro fit the swivel or do I need to but a whole new seat without the heater element and height adjuster

That's what we have - factory fitted heated, height adjustable plus electric lumbar adjustment.

We have RIB swivel bases fitted on these factory fitted seats.

I am 6’3 and have used aftermarket swivel bases in the past and ended up removing them as they raise the seat to high

I'm 6ft 2 1/2, and would always have height adjustment. I cannot understand why VW haven't bothered to develop a swivel seat with height adjustment, if only for their own California. I have always found the standard VW swivel seat too low for proper visibility - but both I and my wife (5ft 10) like to sit high in any vehicle.
